[Closed] Peugeot Partner Combi ABS question

Hi,

Here we go…

Am looking to go down the “van with windows and seats option” for transporting the bikes so am looking at the Peugeot Partner Combi. I’ve found a good one at a decent price which the owner (who seems very genuine) says has ABS.

A bit of research suggests that the 2003 model didn’t have ABS as standard (came in as standard in 2004). I put this to him and as he is the second owner he didn’t buy from new and therefore wouldn’t have been him to elect/pay for the optional ABS. However in totally good faith he believes it has ABS (and has owned it for 3+ years) but we are unable to prove either way at the moment. I’m aware it’s a bit of a mountain out of a molehill but we are planning on taking it to the Alps etc... so would ideally like ABS. On a further note it doesn’t have air conditioning and from the others we’ve seen they either have both AC and ABS or neither?

Does anyone on here know how we can tell if it’s got ABS (without trying to do a massive skid on loose gravel!). Someone suggested looking at the dash when the ignition goes on so see if an ABS light comes on and there isn’t one but not sure this is conclusive? I’ve got pictures of the engine he’s sent me but apparently the ABS is under the battery so can’t tell just by looking.

If it makes any difference it’s a 2003 (May I think) Escapade 2.0 HDI.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated and can easily send engine pics etc… to anyone if that helps…?!

Wouldn't have to be a big skid... The easiest way I'd say.

Great – thanks.

Problem is I’d rather know for sure before a second visit etc… rather than rocking up again, test drive it again and trying to do a big skid!

Was hoping there might be a more technical way of finding out?!!

Take a VON number, ask a Peugeot dealer. They'll be able to tell if the car had it originally fitted. BTW Why don't you learn to use the brakes properly rather than rely on technology? Just like on the bike.

I did think that - was also wondering how much difference it makes if driving sensibly etc... Only concern is that I will be in the Alps with it this winter so seemed a sensible feature to look for?!

If it has ABS when ignition is turned on there will be an ABS light that comes on on the dash, which will then go out after a couple of seconds folowing the self test.

big skid (or just take it upto around 30 and do an emergency stop) is the only way to know for sure.

What Michael Bowden says ^^^^^^^ If there is no ABS warning light it wont have ABS.

Or if you know what your looking for follow the brake pipes from the brake master cylinder and see where they go. If ABS is fitted they should all go into the ABS unit before going to each wheel.

Pretty sure there's no light so looks like no ABS...

if it's anything like the citroen berlingo (which it is, exactly the same in fact) then, erm, yes

the brakes will be sh1t...it's a feature of the car I think!

you'll get used to it eventualy, should you survive long enough 😉
