Not very tech savvy so needs to be simple.
Laptop playing up so was thinking of maybe a Western Digital personal cloud and a small lighter laptop.
Is this a good idea ?? being able to access anywhere and put stuff in and out seems a great thing !!!
Any help would be great.

It sounds great until you end up on a slow network connection or somewhere without internet at all.

I prefer a cloud solution like dropbox where it is all locally synced and then you can have it sync to all devices if required.

Yes MyCloud owner here, and a few reason why I got the thing.

a: So I could store the films I have obtained on it and have them viewable through my smart tv or devices
b: Backup my Mac
c: Backup all my photos and videos which are on Dropbox and again view on the TV.

Haven't uploaded anything while im out of the house yet, but im sure I will at some point.
Its a great device.

Of course the only issue is if the hard drive fails your screwed. That is, unless you buy another to use as secondary backup.

I use a synology for all the film/music/backup stuff and have it sync up to amazon glacier as a backup just incase the HDD does die.

My internet at moment is poor and not going to get any better due to location, upload speed of 1/2 a meg so one reason to go for it.
So should I buy a mirror one or add my hard drive to it ??

You could plug a removable drive in and back up to that on a regular basis.

Just don't leave it plugged in permanently or any disk or file corruption could also replicate.

SSD Hard Drives are so small and light it doesn't really affect the size of a laptop, although big ones (>500GB) are expensive.
