no directional woven unicorn tears cables etc. Just some acceptable desktop, powered, 3.5mm jack input, stereo speakers for the office.

Mine have just died after 10yrs service.

Preferably no subwoofer box, budget up to £35/40.

any recommendations?

My brother has suggested these, but they are just out the top end of budget but I might be convinced if others can vouch for them

Can't vouch for those but our band has a pair of the Creative £30 jobs in the rehearsal room. We've played all sorts through them and they always surprise us how good they are for the price. Inspire T30s I think they are.

I've been using these for the last 6 years and they're great for music and just skype etc.

Quite impressed with the Dell branded ones I got with my XPS desktop a few years back. Has a sub, but it's worth it as the speakers are tiny and it reinforces the bass. Not a patch on the main hifi set up, but for the desktop (games & music) it's pretty good.

Though office use I'd be using headphones. I hate listening to other people's stuff in an office. In-ear Shures.

My office. Everyone has to listen to The War on Drugs if I say so.

If they break again, these get 2 thumbs up for £40-ish.

you're welcome 🙂

I hide the bass bit on the floor and just keep the satellites on the desk 🙂
