I've always avoided having a PP account, as largely it seems like a scam whereby a middle man makes money out of the end users. Much better if the end users cut out the middle man and deal direct. (appreciate there's technically an extra level of safety involved for a buyer via PP)

I've used paypal to pay ebay store vendors, plus people like nextdaytyres, where they send me an invoice through PP and I just have to pay it like any other online transaction. No account needed though

However last night, I agreed to buy 3 auction items from ebay from the same vendor for a package price, and now I'm wondering if there's a way to pay for it through PP (to keep within ebay rules), but without actually creating an account. What information do I need from the buyer to do that - will his PP account name simply be his ebay user name?

(I usually deal with buying or selling s/hand stuff on here by bank transfer. Significant sums, I'd rather meet face to face and swap cash and goods directly)

Thanks!

Not the answer you want, but personally, I would just create a Paypal account.

Everything else seems to make things unnecessarily complicated.

^that.

Although, I thought, during the Ebay checkout process that there's an option to use Paypal's credit card payment without logging in.

Whichever way, Paypal will still get their cut.

So, you don't want an account on paypal because you don't like paying a middleman but you use paypal? Am I missing something or are you just a little odd? If you're using it anyway, the high-ground has already gone, just sign up for an acct.

Just set up an account. Its not a scam, its just a convenient way to pay for stuff. Pretty much all the costs are covered by the seller (Just like a credit card or business bank account).

That's me!

To me it's one thing using PP to pay a store - that's no different from using Sagepay or similar, it's a business and PP costs are an overhead. It's a different thing on an individual to individual basis, as from what I understand, ebay insist on sellers using it and also apply steep fees to the sellers at the same time. That I find objectionable (and it's why I've never sold anything by ebay)

ebay is a business that puts a seller in touch with loads of potential buyers

they charge the seller for that service

if you don't like their charges, don't sell on there

buying is pretty much free of charges, unless you object to postage costs

I'm a bit surprised when people are outraged by businesses wanting to make money.

It's the sellers decision to use ebay to sell his items and as such by having paypal as a payment method is accepting that it will cost to use the service.
As a buyer you wont incur this cost.
So if you don't sell on ebay and utilize payapl then you wont be charged for using it.
You can have a paypal account to buy things and it wont cost you anything.

Especially when they aren't making money from the person being outraged

It does happen occasionally. I've had a free fiver from them a couple of times.

In this case however, you are the buyer

It won't cost you anything, so why are you bothered ?

The seller has made their choice, and they are obviously happy to pay the fees to be out in touch with millions of potential buyers.

Just create an account and stop trying to find things to be outraged about.

You do know the credit card companies charge merchants to use the card - by your logic I assume you never use a credit card?
