I'm pretty confused about the level of protection I'm getting by using Paypal for a non-ebay transaction. I'm looking to buy a camera from a classified ad (not on here) and have agreed the price etc but I want to protect myself as far as possible. I'm avoiding Paypal gift in favour of a proper payment. Am I covered if the camera doesn't turn up, if it turns up broken or is not as described?
If you're concerned, use a credit card for the Paypal payment
One assumes you can't just exchange cash for goods?

I will, does that really make a difference?

Correct - that would be much easier.

It should give you some extra protection under section 75 of the Consumer Credit act if Paypal don't help

Even for a private purchase of second hand goods?
Even for a private purchase of second hand goods?
I believe so as you'd be paying Paypal with the card, not the seller

I had a quick Google and Section 75 seems to exclude indirect payments like those made via Paypal.
