This is going to be an odd one! I’m travelling to Dublin next week for a couple of days with work. I’ve just dug out my passport and I’d forgotten (don’t know how) that I had a massive beard when I last renewed the passport.

I now have very little in the way of a beard 😕 anybody have a similar thing happen? Was all okay? Did you get cavity searched? Do I need a fake beard or some 48 hour hair growth elixir?

No issue at all. I am beardless on mine but sport a beard these days. Even less of an issue for going to Ireland (for now)

Cheers nic, I had visions of being stuck at Manchester airport whilst my boss did a presentation in Dublin by himself. Never been to the ROI before and really looking forward to it

Should be OK.

I have a colleague who always triggers a callout to some sort of 'westerner beard' specialist when crossing the border from Hong Kong into China. Said expert appears to be the only one qualified to judge that - with beard - he is the same person as the beardless photo in his passport.

Dublin airport immigration are generally pretty relaxed. I like the way they always address you by your first name, like they know you!

You don't need a passport for visiting Ireland.

Though the airline may insist on some sort of ID. A photo driving licence would probably be acceptable.

Same massive beard on driving licence too! Didn’t know you didn’t need a passport to visit the ROI

Had some problems with the facial recognition scanners by being in various states of beard while going international. The pissed off look I have in my pic seems to be the one I acquire while waiting for immigration

I know a bloke who used a passport for five years or so, the pic had twice the number of eyes and ears that he took to the airport. You should be fine.

When I had a beard but may passport photo was clean shaven I had no issues, not even with the automatic face recognition gates.
