Looking for some advice if anyone can help....
I work part time (32 hrs rather than 35). Had
an initial interview for promotion in same company but have been told that the position is for full time only. Vacancies in my department are only ever advertised as full time although there are 5/6
Part timers. I have to let them know if I'm still interested in a full time role.
I will never be able to move role if this is allowable.
Surely this is discrimination against part time workers?
Cheers
Sniff
From memory
Its not the same job and they have the right to say the promoted post is full time only.
Its only 3 hrs a week more. Why not do it if you want the promotion.
I don't see any discrimination there - you can apply for the job but the company want the promoted post to be full time. there might be good operational reasons for that
The TUC website ha a section on part time rights
It sounds as if he is not being allowed to apply for it because he is a part timer and the role is full-time.. which would be stupid...
he says he has been interviewed for it but the promoted post is full time
Yes have applied and had an initial interview. My point is that I'm not allowed to go for the second interview unless I go full-time.

- I have child care issues. Might just be three more but it would mean an extra day in the office.
My issue is that unless I return to full-time issues I'm restricted to my current role.
Once in the position you have the right to apply for flexible working which may help with your childcare, arrangements could include working from home or varying your working hours. I would press on and apply for the full time position then do the negotiating once you have the job....
I know b_man but they will flatly refuse a flexible working arrangement.
Doesn't help that I have been unofficially been performing the role for almost a year - they have no issue with me doing 32 at the moment.
Sniff - check on the tuc website but I think they are in the right - its not the same role.
Spoke to ACAS. basically I'm screwed as it was advertised as full time.
Thanks for the replies folks
