[Closed] Parent of or work with an autistic/learning disabled person?
I attended a talk last night about the HANDLE approach (Holistic Approach to addressing Neuro Developmental issues and promoting Learning Efficiency). This comes from a book written by a woman; Judith Bluestone who herself had neurobiological issues.
The crux of it is therapy to enhance proprioception, nerve and muscle condition for fundamental processes through basic, gentle physical therapy.
Non-verbal children have developed speech and some people with severe aversion to contact have become affectionate with people close to them.
It's hard to sum up in a forum post box, if you're interested CLICK HERE
I'm a careworker and a close friend/colleague is working with one of the people I mention above (contact aversion). This boy's mother spoke of how the progress was made, it was quite amazing!
Thanks for the link Herman Shake
My youngest daughter suffers from a rare condition called Smith Magenis Syndrome, I will give them a call to see if they have done any work with anyone with SMS.

Thanks again
I'll pass this on to the +1. Seems hard to sift out the "wonder cures" from the evidence-based practice sometimes (from what I understand secondhand).
I'll pass this on. Mrs rkk01 teaches children with a variety of similar conditions - autism, wider ASD and Asbergers. She' always interested in looking at new stuff.
