I'm sending a couple of bits in a camera bag to a fellow forumite who purchased them via the For Sale section. Normally I'd used Royal Mail but they do mention no batteries and the like and if they X-ray the bag and see the gimbal and stuff in there I don't want the bag destroyed/confiscated.
Any advice on who is good. I suspect that My Hermes isn't getting any 5* reviews, but are DPD OK?
I just need something I can book via parcels to go and then drop off in DIdcot.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Never had a problem with MyHermes, I use them for nearly everything I post.

maybe you can work with a process of elimination
parcelfarce - left a bike on my doorstep and forged a signature. depot said this one of their best drivers

yodel - regular deliveries from open univesity, 50% lost parcels, one "signed for" parcel didn't arrive and courier couldn't tell what address the parcel had been left at, the name or gender of the person who signed for the parcel

dpd - collection from hospital, ignored instructions, went to the wrong place, picked up the wrong thing and took it to the wrong place. tried to charge for returning it

Wouldn't advise using any of them.

The few MyHermes deliveries I've had have turned up where and when they were supposed to

In my experience it depends on your local franchise for many of the companies. For example, I would always use our local DPD but would never, ever ask for something to be delivered by Hermes. In fact if I find people use Hermes I will not buy from them or cancel the order.

This is based on the last five packages that have been sent via Hermes to either myself or my partner, none of which have been delivered. We always get "attempted delivery no access" as they don't want to drive up about 50m of unmade track. EVERY other courier company delivers to our door, Parcelforce, DPD, DHL etc. etc.
All the online grocery drivers will come as well, Tesco, Ocado etc.
Every item I have sent via DPD has arrived on time and in good condition

In 6 years of using them at work, UPS have never lost an item for us.

Send 1000’s of parcels a month DPD and UPS would be my preferred options, DHL are not that far behind with TNT a bit further down the line.
Our local MyHermes lady is excellent but it’s hit and miss elsewhere.
UKMail we refer at work to UKFail and I refuse to buy from companies who use Yodel if I can, had a delivery a couple of weeks ago from them which turned in to a farce like normal.

Ask the buyer who's the best at delivering round their area. I find its variable depending on staff continuity - so we've had a parcel force driver round here for years, and he gets it done properly; Hermes on the other hand seem to chop and change drivers and they haven't got a clue.

Update. I used MyHermes on Friday in DIdcot and the parcel was delivered safe and sound yesterday up north. So apologies to MyHermes for my earlier doubts.
