on C4 news they've just said Sarah Palin has been rehabilitated and may run for prez in the US. Say WHAT ??? But then, they voted in Reagan and Bush so I guess she has a good chance 🙁

There are huge numbers of Americans who are not littoral. They do not live on the coasts. They live inland. These people aren't like the media folks. They're not like the Americans who travel. They are American.

Like her or not, Palin appeals to those very people. Middle Americans. They get to vote for president, we don't. Does that mean sh's political perfection? Hardly.

Oh, and how many other presidential candidates have had a bongo film made about them?

Some very broad strokes there CFH. I do not think you can pinpoint ones politics to their geographic location. You get idiots all over the map.

I don't see it myself.

CFH does make a good point - the Republican heartlands are the middle states & the bible belt. Take a look at any US election prior to the last one & look at the colours of the central states - all predominantly red for Republican. The coastal states are sneered at by these people for their 'intellectual elitism'.
Palin & people like her make a virtue of being anti-intellectual to a dangerous degree.
The very fact that she is mocked so widely endears her to their viewpoint...

I see what CptF is saying: the voters in the square states have a very different view of life than the californians and the ny/bos/wash, and if you look at past US elections you will see that geography does apply

Surely she's a bit old for Silvio?

I'd imagine he knows how to use an apostrophe as well.

Really don't like getting into political exchanges, but from the US, I must comment that while Sarah Palin will probably never be president, more and more people here are coming to believe she would be a whole lot better than what we are stuck with at the moment.

Flash is spot on if you have ever spent time between the coasts then you will know America is as fundamental as you can get. I lived in Texas and that is off the scale of red white and blue weirdness.

Look at the comments on any US political blog, and it's striking how many people are becoming disillusioned with Obama. He doesn't seem to be connecting the same way he did during his campaign; I've even seen a couple of calls to bring back Bush. You'll always get the swivel eyed loons, though...

She uses Photoshop?

Not sure whether she does, but plenty of people do. One of the most famous pic of her :

I think the 'rehabilitation' is in a Sarah Palin stylee.

I don't think anything has happened, apart from her making a more aggressive bid for national attention. And Fox News, unsurprisingly, appear to have obliged.

You've got to hand it to the girl, she has a great narrative style 😉

"This was all part of that hope and change and transparency. Now, a year later, I gotta ask the supporters of all that, 'How's that hopey, changey stuff working out?' "

ffs. i suppose the only ( very marginal ) saving grace, if palin did by some miracle manage to keep her mouth shut long enough to get elected, it might mean that Hillary could stand without running against her own incumbent president. whether or not that's such a good thing i don't know, but at least in her current role she's doing a fair job of convincing the rest of the world that the US isn't completely full of meat-headed, religious war-mongers.

working with americans I need to be careful.

I seemingly sensible political view here (as in, 'Bush is not respected internationally') can easily offend.

It will be great if she were to even be nominated, the news on radio 4 will be brilliant. If she was voted in as the Pres there would be further mirth as she finds out there are other countries than the US. Anyway it's not as though she would start a war.....ok forget the above.
