After numerous issues with my Outlook account, I've decided to have all my business emails forwarded to my Gmail account. The reliability issues have mainly centred around my phone (Htc Desire) and I'm told that the old pop3 accounts were never designed with mobile technology in mind.

So... I've signed into 123reg.com and have set emails to forward to my Gmail address - what should my incoming and outgoing servers be set at? Just now they look like this;

Incoming server (IMAP) imap.123-reg.co.uk

Incoming server (POP) pop.123-reg.co.uk

Outcoming server (SMTP)

But I'm guessing the settings will have to change for web based mail? Any help gratefully received, thanks!

I have email forwarding set on my 123-reg account to forward domain emails to gmail. I don't recall having to change server settings; makes sense, inbound will come to 123-reg to be forwarded, outbound is irrelevant unless you're using their webmail for, I don't know, some bizarre reason. My outbound mail goes through Gmail, I don't touch 123-reg at all. Unless you're doing something random I'd hazard it's correct as it is.

Cheers Cougar. I only ask as it doesn't seem to be working 🙁

The settings above ^^^ were used to forward to an ancient freeserve pop3 account. I'll go and try again.

Possibly for Cougar rather than user-removed (because it's a bit techy) - did you know you can use Gmail for your domain, pointing your MX record at Google rather than forwarding? It's under Google Apps, which is free for individuals - http://www.google.com/enterprise/apps/business/pricing.html.

I didn't, no. But, if it ain't broke... (-: Worth knowing though, seems a little more elegant. TBH, for the amount it actually gets used it's probably neither here nor there for me.

123-reg have pretty good knowledgebase articles on how to do this. Outgoing servers should be left alone as Cougar said although I'd probably do what sl2000 says and add the domain to Google Apps. Will be easier in the long run.

Hello,

I work here at 123-reg.

Having read your post I would like to ask about the issues you have experienced with using the email service you have had with us on your mobile devices. I would be keen to pass this information onto our product managers so we can look into the cause further.

In regards to your email itself, if you would like to keep using the 123-reg email service I would be more than happy to look into the issues you have experienced and look towards finding a solution. If you want to have the email forwarded to your Google email then from the 123-reg side you would use the email forwarding functionality to set this up. From your post I think you have already done this?

To check this is working you should log into your Google emails via their webmail service. You should find that emails sent to your domain name email adress are stored within your mailbox there.

To have the emails working on email clients, mobiles or other devices, you would need to use the Google mail server settings. Unfortuneately I cannot confirm what these would be, although you should be able to find them within googles online help.

If you would like me to look into your issues you can provide a ticket ID or domain name on here or send details to customerexperience@123-reg.co.uk and I will be able to look into your services for you.

Regards,

Nerys

Wow, that's service, thanks. Happy to report it's all up and running. The transition wasn't instant and the delay led me to believe that something wasn't working. Thanks to all for advice.

Nerys, I should say that the 123Reg website doesn't work using Vista on my laptop - opening the site causes Chrome to crash. Works perfectly on my Windows 7 machine though.
