Hi, i am trying to contact this guy as he posted
A bike for sale on behalf of his Dad.
In short, we bought the bike thinking that
There were no issues. Once the deal was
Made he drove away with my mates cash and
This is where our problem began. On removing the
Front wheel i noticed one of the fork stanchions
Was badly scored, only really noticeable once the wheel
Was removed.
Now we spoke in detail regarding condition etc
of the bike , including the stanchions prior to our
Meet. All, allegedly was fine.
Might i add that
This fella also works in a bike shop.
After contacting several times he will not accept
The bike back or compensate my mate for the
£300 bill from Mojo !
Any ideas on where we could go from here ?
If i could manage to get his Sons contact details well maybe
he could talk some decency into his Dad.

Firstly, I'm not taking sides here as we only have one side of the story.

However... in light of the fact that you picked up the bike in person and had every chance to check it over and ensure that it was as described, I'd say that you don't have a leg to stand on here I'm afraid.

Sorry.

Anyway, why do you want contact details if you have already contacted him several times since the sale? Confused.

+1

You can easily check stanchion damage without removing the wheel.

Once the deal was
Made he drove away with my mates cash

& you had the bike.

Sorry, but if you've actually met up & inspected the bike (or not) then handed over the cash IMO he nor his Dad have anything to answer to, perhaps he didn't know there was any damage. If I'd have sold the bike & both parties were happy with it, that would be me finished, how does anyone know what you or your mate have done with the bike afterwards?

I've made mistakes buying stuff in the past & missed things I should have noticed, but as I've said that's my mistake & I've just had to suck it up, not go back to the seller & ask for my money back, it's a second hand/used sale.

One would think from your posting history, (all classified posts) that you might have some savvy when it comes to dealing with second hand goods.

The fact that you saw the aforementioned goods in person then sought to besmirch this chaps name on here, perhaps you didn't want the goods and there is some sort of agenda?

As my post in the classified says:

Hello. My Dad is selling this bike and I'm posting it on here for him. All questions etc should be directed to him..

Except if you are the mate of the bloke who bought the bike off my Dad who has been emailing him and making abuse phone calls, I really would recommend stopping on that front.

You have no need for my contact details and before you start, I'm not getting dragged into an arguement about it on here.

Hang on. So the OP isn't the buyer, and PL isn't the seller. What does any of this have to do with either of you?

As for the dispute.

It's sold as seen, if the buyer didn't spot any faults and it was sold in good faith, sucks to be him. That said, if I were the seller and genuinely made a mistake, I'd have entertained perhaps accepting a return or a partial refund, so long as I was happy that whatever damage present was likely to have happened in my care rather than subsequently.

However. It sounds like you've gone and got work carried out, then gone back to the seller with a £300 invoice. Which is, if you'll pardon the vernacular, taking the piss. Even in the case of brand new goods, there's not a company in the country which would settle that sort of charge without having first authorised you to carry out a third party repair.

I'm not sure what "decency" you're expecting in return for all this. You seriously expect him to send you a cheque for £300 out of the goodness of his heart for a 'repair' which as far as he knows might be to repair damage you've caused or be a vastly inflated price? That's crazytalk, sorry.

I've bought bikes face-to-face that later I realised had problems... my Scott MTB was so muddy (I know, I know) that I missed the crack/snap in the front mech. 😳

But what I didn't do is blame somebody else for failing to spot evident damage - it's sold as seen for a reason.

Sold as seen. People really need to start having some responsibility for their own actions and stop trying to wriggle out of every little wrong decision. You and your mate saw the bike in front of you and should have checked it properly before swapping it for the money. Anything after that is your problem and nothing to do with the seller and definitely nothing to do with his son.

Grow some balls, accept you made a mistake and dry your eyes.

...could talk some decency into his Dad.

Let me be very clear about this - anyone who knows my Dad, and there are quite a few on here who do, will know:

1. You will not come across a more honest chap, he will go well over the top helping people.

2. He is absolutely fastidious in looking after bikes. As had been stated he works in a shop and the forks have been regularly serviced since new.

Hand on heart he was not aware of any damage when the bike was sold. As far as he concerned, it was as advertised - top condition with a new frame. The buyer, who wasn't Monster Munch, got £120 off the asking price and the deal was done after test ride and inspection. Some time after the bike was taken away, Monster Munch gets in touch with my Dad to say there is damage to the forks that looks like something has got stuck under the seal and scored the stanchion. Now if he is the expert he claims to be, the first thing you look at when buying a second hand bike is stuff like this.
I have no idea if the forks were damaged before sale or not. My Dad genuinely wasn't aware of it and it could well have happened post sale so on that basis, sorry but no refunds are going to be given.

If Monster Munch thinks that he'll bully my 66 year old Dad into giving a refund he is sadly mistaken and if there is even the slightest continuation of the verbal telephone abuse or snotty emails he'll be getting a visit to his address in Brigham from the police.

Yet another added to the list of people not to deal with.

O.P you are a massive idiot. You had the bike in front of you. Seriously do you not have eyes?
Who's to say you or your mate didn't cause the damage and are now trying a scam?
Your mates alleged actions with a abusive calls and emails suggest to me you are trying a scam by attempting to intimadate someone.
