am currently watching th bbc 2 doc about it. do they still show those late night programs any more ❓ (used to like watching them)

no, because they've moved into mainstream /primetime - stuff like Coast. Rough Science (remember that?), some radio 4 programs and in future a lot of the BBC 4 content are all Open University programmes, or at least co-productions.
The old style Denzil Dexter ones still happen but they're now distributed to students on DVD
