Or keep using Gillette/Wilkinson Sword MegaShavePlusMachTurbo whatevers, and one of these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/RazorPit-Original-Sharpener-Travel-Sharpens/dp/B004W2UMDW

Each blade cartridge then lasts about a month minimum.

What Drac said.

STW a couple of weeks ago:  https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/de-shaving-novice-advice-please/

And a long thread from a couple of years back.   https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/few-questions-about-de-razor-shaving/

Cartridge shaving is a marketing gimmick and a money pit.  "The first blade shaves incredibly close, the second closer still!"  So what's the point of the first blade, then?

But it's fair to say that a cartridge shave is quicker/less faffy than a DE shave (reading those thread you linked to, DE is all about 'the prep' it would seem), and needs less care to avoid nicks, isn't it? Genuine Q.

And with the razorpit wotsit, the cost of it drops mahoosively.

I find DE quicker and no more nicks but it f if you do it can be brutal.

The blades I use for one of those I can get 150 blades, that'll last me around 3 years or more.

It is to start with, there's a learning curve.  Once you get used to it though you can whip round as quickly as with a cartridge.

You can turn it into a ritual easily enough, but you could use a DE razor and a can of shaving foam if you wanted.  It's what I do if I'm in a hurry, I have an artisanal badger hair brush carved by Filippino virgins and a dish of soap made from the distilled tears of unicorns, and I have a can of Gillette's finest next to it.

At the rate I shave I'll be dead before I've used 150 blades.

The razor pit you could jury-rig, shaving backwards on a strip of old denim does much the same job.

I only  use aggressive DE razors and can still shave quicker than if using cartridge razors

Once you get the hang of it it’s all good (technique)

I bought my DE when I was 40 in that time I've bought 2 lots of 100 blades, I've for about 30 left of the last ones, you may well be right. I'm 46 in a few months.

Yeah, but not everyone wants a strip of tatty old denim in their bathroom. And you mean jerry-rig, right? We wouldn't want to make an escape goat out of you 😉

FWIW, using Mach 3's, a razorpit and shaving three times a week, I use about 6 blades a year.

No, I don't.  "Jury" means "makeshift," it's a nautical term.

Anyone use  DE on their legs? Or is that just asking for trouble? I mean, I save money on face blades by growing a beard, maybe I need to economise on leg blades too!

Once you reach full puberty you'll need to shave more often.

It was me that asked for De advice recently.  3-4 weeks in I'm glad I switched at the moment.  I reckon I'll save £30-£50 /year over Mach 3 cartridges and the shave is better, .For me it's 12-18 hours closer (if they makes sense) . So I'm shaving every other day for work, skin feels better..... It is more time consuming, a good deal so at the moment but I hope to get swifter.  I also have a lot to learn but finally managed to shave myself without a nick or weeper!  Twice!  I need to get much better though!

Tried astra, Wilkinson sword and now shark blades...I prefer the sharper ones (1st 2) but keep getting weepers with those.

Lots of learning to do, blades, soaps, technique, razor and more but for the moment I'm enjoying that. I'd hope de shaving gets easier though.... I'm sure it will as my technique and knowledge improves.  I'd you don't want to invest time learning though.... Stick to cartridges.

Not tried the online ones but a Gillette Fusion cartridge lasts me a month. 8 blades cost £22 so call it £33 a year, I can't be bothered to change.

I'm the same with my Mach 3, each ones lasts three or four weeks (used daily).

Some/all the subscription ones that boast much better value and better shave, are way more costly for me as I'm forced to get new batch every few weeks. Mach 3, yeah expensive, but I go months on one cartridge, long past the blue strip fading away. Subscription also has you hooked in.

DE shaving, yeah probably should but I shave in a few seconds flat whereas it likely takes a lot more care and precision to get right without shredding your face. Plus I'm not fussed about perfection, just don't want to look like a Unix admin every day (or a wheel building wizard).

It really doesn't.

i can understand the 'can't be bothered' feeling.  I remember reading a previous de razor thread and feeling the same.  I think I was spending maybe £30 a year on cartridges at the time, but they've crept up a bit so it's about £50 I spend now and money seems tighter....2 small kids have something to do with that.... So I am happy to try it now.  I already look back and think I've wasted a grand, maybe £1500 over my shaving lifetime.

I'm already getting the closest shaves I've ever had and currently enjoy the routine.  It needs investment to learn though.

Agreed; A lot of the STW threads on the subject can make it sound a 60 minute routine - but if you don`t want the faff, then you just apply shave foam from a can as you would with a cartridge and shave away in exactly the same way.

It will only be taking you longer if your new to using the DE razor ... the thought of skimming that lethal looking blade over your face can be daunting the first few times; but you soon learn its as safe and quick as a cartridge.

I actually find the DE shaves faster than a cartridge or disposable because it doesnt clog up as much. And it gives an altogether better shave.

ps - yes - I use a DE to shave legs; I use my mildest DE razor though. You really do need to take your time though ... when I have nicked myself - there is serious blood!

I use Harry’s; I like them. I think I’ve got some code at home for discount if the OP wants.

I get the cost-saving but the only way a DE shave is quicker is if you've got a lot of stubble and the cartridge is clogging up. I shave daily and there is just no chance a DE can be quicker, same speed with a lot of practice sure but not faster.

It's not faster, no.  But it's as fast and, anecdotally at least, closer.
