I've got involved in helping with the local schools fun run - What's the best way to accept payments online for entries?
Paypal looks like it needs a business account which I presume will cost money...

Anything better?

I guess it depends on the scale of the event.
Work's recently organised a fun run for sports relief and are using http://www.sportsystems.co.uk to manage the online entries. No idea what the cost is, but I'd assume that the cost is directly passed as an entry fee surcharge.

What about JustGiving.com?

Can you register a school on there?

Business account is free but you will need a registered business if you are receiving more than a couple of thousand IIRC

Either paypal or Google buy-it-now buttons are the simplest way. You just pay a percentage of each 'sale'.
Somthing like Entry Central will handle all the registrant details for you but costs more.
