One photo that catches a historical moment

I'm enjoying the use of the word 'catches' in conjunction with cricket there

Personal to me as spent much of a particular summer wearing this on a t shirt. Lots of lovely memories of jumpers for goalposts etc.

It's such a sad photo now

Great shot of Whillans and Bonington on their way out to the alps.

Also 50 years ago this month

I came to suggest the pic of the Vietnamese kids running from Napalm, but it's already here. It's a great photo, and depicts how horrific war is more than any pic I've seen.

So, as it's already here I have an alternative. 'Historic' might be pushing it a bit, but it really does catch a moment:

An unlikely pair. 🙂

One of my favourite photos - the look on both their faces just seems to reflect their personalities so well.

I love this as well. Not just because it captures a moment in time, but because of the speculation around it:

That's better.
On a similar not to Drac's

(even though this morning the Sky News woman mentioned Jonny, as if he was the captain.)

Some of these photos would definitely benefit from an explanation. Which kind of defeats the object a little if not supplied!

On my android I just long press the pic to do a Google picture search which reveals what they are about.

That said,I agree, could do with a quick explanation for some of them.👍

There's a TV programme coming up - I think on Discovery, about this historical photo lark. It mentioned the moon photo - the clarity in that photo is stunning. no wonder people think it's fake!

Clear thin atmosphere + a lovely 70mm Hasselblad fitted with a Zeiss lens.

The camera that took it is still on the moon!

There are some incredibly unpleasant photos of corpses being bulldozed into mass graves during the liberation of various concentration camps towards the end of WWII that mark something hugely significant, but I don't think that it'd be fair to post any here (my Wife and I sometimes wonder whether we could cope with watching Night Will Fall)

Someone already posted something unpleasantly similar.
