Making progress at the stonercoppice. Got a growing pile of 12' white poplar cord currently earmarked for burning in the winter of 2014.
But before I do torch the lot, I was wondering if there was a keen market in dead straight lengths of poplar for wood turning? Some of these are c.5" at both ends over the 12' and straight as an arrow. Others closer to 3-4" but again, not tapering.
Is there a name for turning wood around the centre of a cord as opposed to turning blocks cut from a huge trunk?
ski - I know you're local to me, if any of this stuff is of interest to you as a hobbyist turner, youd be welcome to help yourself gratis. Ive also got some fruit tree wood in the stack at home at the moment, but not sure any of it is any good for you - bit too narrow and a few splits, but if I find a nice piece I will put it to one side.
