They're making a TV series based on the Watch! Wooo!

Now, who to play Vimes?

I had Penelope Keith slated for Lady Sybil, but fear she may a little old now.

Bernard Cribbins..?

slightly more leftfield.. I could see Justin Lee Collins as a young Vimes..

or maybe Tim Healy for a nahtharn Vimes.. or John Thaw..

Not sure about David Jason - I've always thought of Vimes of being a thinking man's brick shithouse - the part needs someone with a pair of hands that could knock you into next week.

Good point Cranberry, Vimes as a character is a man who will use violence when it's needed, he survived the 'Lilac' uprising when a young copper (nigh****ch) and rose through the ranks to become Captain.
Hmmm, can't think of who would play him though, what sort of accent will he have?

Didn't he play Albert in the tv adaptation of Hogswatch? Whoever plays Vimes needs to look like they like a good drink or 2!

Liam Neeson for Vimes?
Shame Jim Broadbent's getting on a bit, he'd have been perfect, as would Bob Peck.
David Morrisey or Christopher Eccleston would also be pretty perfect for the role.
I'll have to have another think.

Wonder who'll play Angua?

Tony Robinson would be a great Nobby, but perhaps a bit too obvious.

Dibbler? Nobby? Angua?

Actually I thought David Jason was a rubbish Rincewind.

Eric Idle for Dibbler obviously!

I always see the beggar from Life of Brian when I think of the character.

Kate Beckinsale for the win!!

Is Daniel Craig tall enough? He's called carrot 'cos of his shape, not the colour of his hair.

Isn't Vimes supposed to be an older chap a veteran not a young chiselled jawed type.

I say again.....Warren Clarke

I've always rather fancied a stint at acting.

I once had a PC game and Rincewind was in fact voiced by Eric Idle. I thought he suited it perfectly.

Jason Statham as Vimes?!!

He's supposed to be intelligent!

He's an actor. Maybe he could act intelligent?
Or maybe he really is intelligent and excels at acting not so intelligent?
😉

Vimes has to be Gary Oldman.

Carrot, maybe Damian Lewis? Or Tom Hardy.

Terry had one specific actor in mind when he first wrote Vimes. Sadly, he never got the chance to play him:

the late, truly wonderful, and very much missed Pete Postletwaite.

Warren Clarke would be a good fit, but hasn't he already played a copper ? That might put the director off selecting him.

Vimes- Brendan Gleeson
Nobby- John Thomson
Carrot- Brendon fraser
Colon- Tony Slattery
Lady Sybil- Emma Thomson

Is it me, or does the phrase 'based on' instil a slight dread?

Stick to the source material, it's quality.

Count Zero.

SNAP. Exactly, absolutely, right. RIP Pete.

Bar the accent and being too tall, Clint Eastwood could do a good Vimes.

Carrot? Vin Diesel or similar?

David Jason would be a Nobby or a Colon.

Vinnie Jones as Detritus.

Can't think of a suitable Angua at the mo. Catherine Zeta Jones with a dye job?

Vimes- Warren Clarke
Angua - Beatrice Dalle
Lady Sybil - Emma Thomson

No to David Jason completely

Jeez, David Jason has done enough on the Discworld.
Pete Postlethwaite would have been amazing as Vimes.

Going Postal had:
Ingrid Bolsø Berdal ... Sergeant Angua

Kris Marshall could be an irritatingly shiny Captain Carrot.

Hah, Robert Linsay as Vimes, stretch him from his sitcom stasis. Trevor Eve may have the build but probably not interested in copper work.

Vimes - Warren Clarke or maybe....Jason Isaacs
Angua - Kate Beckinsale
Lady Sybil - Dawn French
Carrot - ???
Nobby Nobs - Andy Serkis
Colon - Philip Glenister or Timothy Spall

slimtubing, +1 on the brendan fraser for carrot, he was always the person i pictured when reading the books. plus he's got plenty of practice in at the affable, naive type character.

Mickey Rourke for Detritus.

Peter Kay / Nick Frost as Colon.

Mark Heap as the Patrician.

Harrison Ford for Vimes?? Only if he did it properly though. Mark Heap might be good in there too... but not as both.

Philip Glenister +1

I'm not sure about Rickman, something like Anthony Hopkins as Lecter would be much better. Rickman panto's it up too much.

I think they only let David Jason do the others because they couldn't believe he wanted to. He was better as DEATH's sidekick than as Rincewind.

Is it the one where the assasins get the "gonne"

Who would be head of the assasins??

I always thought of Vimes as being physicaly unremarkable which is why everyone underestimates him....... at the start 🙂

I didn't like David Jason as Rincewind either. Made too much of a pantomime of it.

Give this a thought before you scoff... Michael Gambon for Vimes?
I did initially thing Daniel Craig, but you'd have to age him up a bit.

Alice Roberts for Angua!

AFAIK Sam Vimes was modeled on Clint Eastwood as Dirty Harry. So I say Hugh Jackman.

Kate Beckinsale for Sgt Angua, FTW

Nick Frost as Sgt Colon

Charles Dance for Vetinari?

Dance played Vetinari in Going Postal.

Angua was played by this Lady in the same film.
