While on a roof today fitting a TV aerial i came across a nest of Blackbirds ( or at least i think they were, they were 5ft down the pot and it was dark in there ).
It got me wondering whether they would be able to get out of there when they are big enough to fly. Will they just be able to do a 5ft vertical lift first time flight like a harrier jump jet or are they relying on their parents to give them a piggy back?

More likely to be starlings.

Should not be problems wing, beak and feet will get them out of here. You should see Eider chicks, flightless, they have to fall 200m down into the sea! 😀
