I know a few here do some, and others are interested, so I thought you all might like to have a look through this. This guy is very good, he’s recently made some completely new discoveries by his photography.

That was a very interesting read, I live in the Galloway dark skies park area and being a mtb’r I’ve spent 100’s of nights over the years bivvying on the Galloway hills with my binoculars, whisky etc and it always left me humbled and feeling utterly insignificant to see the vast vast amount of stars that are visible when there is no light pollution, meteor showers are astounding to view when bivvying 2400ft up, slightly inebriated from whisky and weed.

Sadly I’ve got to go somewhere like Exmoor or Dartmoor to experience that sort of dark sky. On a clear night outside of town it’s possible to see lots of stars and most of the major planets, although Mercury can be a problem, just because of limited view of the horizon - if you can get high enough for a clear view of the western horizon, you’re looking right across towards Bath, Bristol and the Bristol Channel with Avonmouth, Newport and Cardiff.

Not seen them for a few years, but I’m hoping for noctilucient clouds next month; I’m going to start carrying my little tripod that I can mount my phone on, then I can take longer exposures.

I’m envious of your nighttime skies!
