Got an original iMac that I could do with flogging. Is it worth owt? Are there any specialist Mac sites that I should try it on or would EBay be best. I inherited it so without writing the spec down off the box I know nowt! It does have quite a bit of software on it, mainly graphics/art stuff.

I'll have to sort out the spec in AM and post. Age wise I think it would be about 02/03.

You'll get the spec under the 'about this mac' bit under the apple menu - top left. Look up similar stuff on ebay and 'watch' the actions so you get a log of their final prices

I would say that it has a value I sold a used 2004 ibook (eBAY) and got good money on it even declaring a fault too, had a fair few watchers and bidders on it.

I only got a fiver for an originaly CRT iMac I sold a few years ago 🙁

If you can't get owt for it, two suggestions: Charity (after all, it's probably fine to write email and use Office on) or fishtank if it's bust.

On the other hand, I sold an original Mac Portable (that's the 17lb beastie) for £150 a few years ago, and am hanging on to a Powerbook 100 at the mo - I got it for a pint of Guiness and a bacon cheeseburger about seven years ago. There's money in them there 'puters. It's a bit like the retrobike lot, but more beige and considerably less outdoorsy.

If its 02/03 then its hardly an original iMac - maybe 4 years too late.

One tip, if it has an airport card in it take it out and sell it seperate. They do not make them anymore and i managed to get £50-60 for one a couple of years ago on ebay.

Oh and use this site to get a price:

I too have just unearthed an old Apple iMac G3. However, with a bit of updating on the memory and OS front it now works fine for surfing the net and listening to iTunes. I have an old 60GB iPod which works with it.

The sound system inside it was designed by Harmon Kardon and sounds awesome when cranked up.
