Some help from the mighty hive-mind much appreciated here.
Have set up a new wireless router tonight as the old set-up was becoming unreliable, kept dropping the connection. New router appears to be working OK, 2 laptops, wireless printer and an iPod Touch all fine but the desktop PC won't pull any data from the web, (internet browser, e-mail or any other connected software) It's reporting no internet connection, but the wireless network is connected with a decent signal. Yes, I've turned it all off and back on again 😆
As a test I tried temporarily reverting back to the old gear, and it worked OK on that. I also temporarily disabled Windows Firewall, no joy there either and there's no other settings I've changed. Any other suggestions welcome!
At a guess you're running Vista or 7? IIRC you have to find the wireless network, define it as a private network and it should let you on.
Need to go to the Network and Sharing Centre to start with.
Vista? 7?? sorry bigyinn, XP's still king in this luddite mansion on all the computers, which is why I can't understand why only one is affected. I've done nothing differently to that one than the others.
Stand down STW Squadron. I've fixed it, TCP/IP setting was set to a static address.
