Our 4 year old grandson comes down to stay occasionally so thinking of getting some Lego for him . I see on Evil Bay there are a few piles for sell including bases etc for about £25 . All we want is like a big box of it with bases , wheels , axles , figures not a specific model just for him to build whatever he fancies . Any ideas ?

Why not get a big box off eBay? Should have bases, wheels...

Joking aside, I'm not sure I understand what you're asking for, as you seem to have answered your own question?

Actually - there was a "what to do with a load of old Lego" thread on here a couple of weeks back, have a search. They may still have it for sale.

I'd say a mixed box off eBay would be the best route - Lego do coloured boxes of mixed bricks etc but ebay will no doubt be better value for money.

Run it through the dishwasher first if you get it off eBay.. could be covered in all sorts of nasty.

Job lot off eBay might not be all it's cracked up to be, e.g. might be manky, 3 wheels of each type rather than 4, etc, might not even be that cheap. At least with the Lego Creative Tubs you know you're gonna get a lot of useful bits.

Or just keep an eye on HUKD Lego section & buy a few different sets at decent discount (will no doubt be some in the run up to Chrimbo)

At that age, Lego City kits things are quite good. They build up quite strongly into things which kids identify with well and withstand reasonable use.

I have boxes of blocks, but the wee lad doesn't really buy into building just the blocks on their own, he much prefers a completed thing of some sort ( even if I make it for him)

oldfart,

We bought the same set for my daughter (was 4, now 5) and it's had so much use.

She can build off the instructions that it comes with, or those online... She struggles to freestyle at the moment, a bit like me.

She's also helped me build way more complicated stuff before & after, it's really helped her dexterity
