MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
I've had 3 occasions in the last week where I needed to view a manufacturers installation instructions on a building site.
These mostly come now as .pdfs, it is possible to print them out, but 2 I've used this week are 250+ pages long, so a rather long job to print.
What would be better would be a tablet like device that I can carry around in the van, and get that out as required. I think a phone would be too small a screen to view them well enough.
I know nothing about these devices, so woudl like a few pointers please.
Must be a colour screen (I work in electrics), usb connection would be enough, and preferably cheap as possible.
Any recommendations for something suitable?
Thanks
Alan.
Kindle? Or any tablet running the Kindle viewer app.
Any Android tablet will do that. You can pick up a cheap Chinese one which will do the job but might be a little annoying for other things. Personally I'd pay a little more and go for a better branded one as you might find it useful for all sorts of stuff.
As a above, any android tablet. I do exactly that with mine, works really well.
Thanks for the replies.
I've never had any use before for these, so could someone point me to something that may be of use?
Something like a Kindle Fire 8gb? :

Or would a tablet device be better - I'm very unlikely to want it for anything other than viewing files.
How about a smart phone. Anything over 4" screen is fine for reading pdfs
Jumping in at the quite shallow end, I've just ordered one of these:

9" android 4.2 etc. at £38 inc. delivery.
If it doesnt work out, my daughter can have it.
Thanks.
It arrived yesterday, and is brilliant.
No idea about battery life, but file transfer is simple from my Linux laptop (once I realised I need to turn on USB on the tablet).
All files moved over pretty much instantly.
2mb .pdf files open far faster than on my laptop.
The camera is good.
Web worked instantly and fast - wifi was a very quick set up - which network, then a password. Dead easy.
£38, utter bargain.
Glad you found one you happy with. Can't really complain at £38
Do you think this still stands 😀- I'm very unlikely to want it for anything other than viewing files.
