Got one a few months back to replace my G7. The G7 had a slow lens and poor flash so was pretty awful in doors. The XZ-1 is much better. Very fast lens and I've hardly used the flash at all. Great for portraits as you can get a really good background blur. Only real downside is the old fashioned lens cap which can get in the way when shooting one handed.

thanks raymond, i had seen that before but comes out very well

is the lack of AEL/AFL an issue? i use it quite a bit on my mju810 compact but that's only because it is pretty basic in every other respect

The exposure is generally pretty good but I never used AEL much on my old camera so I'm probably not a good judge. I do find I need to tweak the white balance though. The automatic WB is not bad but colours look a lot better with the manual settings. Also don't leave it in auto ISO, it default's too low indoors so you get camera shake.
