Whats the protocol on writing on roads? Is it allowed? Tolerated?
What paint should I use 🙂
Gloss 😈
Fine as long as you write 'Coca Cola' or 'McDonalds' 😀
Just make sure that you are not infringing any Olympic copyright. Apparently Audi is borderline, and venn diagrams should be avoided! 😛
^^^ OK so I know youre meant to use chalk, but a lot of the messages on tour de france looked sprayed.
Write an advert for someone you don't like's business.
chalk comes off VERY quick. most (well a lot of) TDF stuff is painted, and remains in place for the rest of the year...

sneaky - I like it

Are you talking about compare the market?
I think a subtle pepsi logo on the route would be ace 😀
The bulk of this thread scores points in the STW "Olympics Whinging" event.
(it's like the football, You can score even before the opening ceremony)
Yeah I agree and I'm ignoring them because (a) its not funny and (b) they sound like grumpy old men.
A couple of cans of road marking spray paint is the stuff you want - it can be used with the can inverted for easier application
Just nip down to your local Screwfix or Tool Station for a good selection

^ really, where? That's awesome!
And how would I go about doing a stencil like that?
(obvioulsy I dont mean to copy it.. but materials-wise I assume a big bit of paper wouldnt be strong enough to make a stencil out of.. do they use card or something? )
Thanks for the info guys. Best get meself down to wickes and see if they do any. Unfortunately the nearest screwfix to dorking is quite a way away!
Why do you want to write on the roads? Protest or support?
fullysussed, not sure - was ont he CyclingWeekly twitter feed.
^^ Well, I could write something like "the Olympics is crap", but then the whole world would see what a bunch of miserable gits we are so maybe it might be nice to use the opportunity to give our amazing cyclists some support instead.
^ thanks, will check it out. ahem, allegedly its possible to get the other side of the barriers 🙂
And there is the public liabilty angle to consider. Some paints turn slippery when wet, and you wouldn't want to be responsible for that, would you?

The National Trust at Box Hill are apparently being quite relaxed about Tour-style graffiti on the race routes for this weekends road races. Which makes a refreshing change. I feel it’ll really add to the atmosphere. Now I’m not saying we can transform Box Hill into Alpe d’Huez but it’ll give it that big race feel. Well done to the National Trust. Sadly this is after one of the Olympic committees painted over this brilliant piece my Mau Mau.
fullysussed, most spray artists use fairly stiff, 300-400gsm card, about A3 size, and taped together so the stencil can be easily folded up for transportation.
Someone wrote bullethead on the route yesterday whats that about then?
On the top of Ditchling Beacon near the top on the small bend there is still a stencil of "Pantani" that you can just make out, that was put there years ago when the TdF came here (was it 98??)..
Go 80's dayglo Pink or Yellow I say..

I suspect that went with the recent resurface 🙁
Yep some one has to do a Penis. There are Penis's all over the Tour of France route.
"is very sad Pantani has been resurfaced"
Why has someone painted "the missile" riding a torpedo?
Do a stencil of the Burger King bloke wearing nike trainers drinking a pepsi while getting cash from a barclays cashpoint.
Of course, you could always get arrested for it: http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/friday-discussion-chalk-and-protest-content
