Just watching the women's XC.
What gear configurations are they running, anyone know? 2x10? Something else? Rider choice?
Whatever they want and/or their sponsor needs them to run I'd guess
its a dull spectator sport isn't it!
are they all on 29ers?
Some are, some aren't, I think.
Most running 2x10 Bresset is on 26" Spitz and Gould on 29er, Annie is on 26" too.
Groovy, ta.
Absalon will be out ona 26", real man time!!
I have to say the sailing in the rough is a little more exciting
Downhill is no more exciting ,they just try to make it seem more so with yoof music at the finish
It looks bobbins, like riding on the canal on shopping bikes.
"some very evil tree roots".
yep. gnarl to the max.
I think it looks great on the telly. Course looks good, openness of the course combined with good camera angles allow the race to be easily followed. Watching it with people that don't ride bikes and they are impressed with technical skills of the riders.
Can't believe people are whinging about it being boring. Its an XC race ffs. Have you seen the previous Olympic mtb races?
Most are apparently running single ring up front because it means there is less to think about. Apparently.
The course looks well designed for tv coverage and spectating as you can see lots from one viewpoint

Didn't think they were all blonde (I'll get my coat and my ban)
The winner looked to be on 1x10 (or 11).
I think it would be only fair for every nay saying internet "expert" who thinks it looks lame and too easy to be forced to race it too and receive a good hard knee in the knackers from every lady who chicks them.
It might not be technically hard in that its not 100% rock garden ridden on long travel skill compensators in your pyjamas but it isn't trying to be. This is what they call XC racing and is a test of a combination of skills and a fairly serious chunk of aerobic capacity.
I think the boring idiots who can only say something negative should get a good hard knee in the knackers anyway.

Agreed.
I think the coverage was fantastic, far better than the MTB XC from the world cup series. The course seemed well thought out given the area and seemed to be either up or down so no rest for the riders. Certainly more exciting than race walking and definitely more of a sport compared to Golf which is apparently going to be in the 2016 Olympics (internet rumours).
