Scott Brash, show jumping gold medalist, is a friend of a friend. So what's your tenuous link to Olympic glory then?
I tarmacked Katie Taylor's driveway.
*giggles*
I tarmacked Katie Taylor's driveway.
Is this some sort of dirty Oirish euphemism or something?
Me chillaxing with Ed Clancy.
And, eh, Chris Hoy's bike.
I went to the same school as Chris Tomlinson, the long jumper
I work with Finnoula Britton....I say work I mean do a PhD in the same department...we don't actually work persay.
I've also done physiological testing on a few other Irish athletes who are there.
I once had a long jumper. Nearly down to my knees it was.
I'm from Yorkshire also 🙄
I only have her a couple of inches.
Anything more and it's difficult to level.
i've been on a couple of dates with a friend of the namibian road cyclist.
and an irish olympic sailor just wrote some content for my website.
Im friends with Lawrence Clarke (running in the 110m hurdles finals tonight) 's sisters.
You did ask for tenuous......
Raced against Ben Ainslie on UK Youth Squad as a teenager.
Taught Jessica Ennis when I was supply teacher in King Ecgberts, and was working with Nicola Minichiello (another supply teacher) who went on to three winter Olympics and is now married to Toni Minichiello.

Im friends with Lawrence Clarke (running in the 110m hurdles finals tonight) 's sisters. You did ask for tenuous......
That's actually probably the least tenuous post of all of them (apart from the Claire Baldwin one I guess).
I work for the same company as Natasha Hansen (Kiwi track cyclist)
I've rowed with Steve Redgrave
- splitting the bill in a curry house. I mean, he ate LOADS more than me !
(I haven't really rowed with SSR - does that count ?)
Kenny - good point, and he is a bit more famous now than he was 15mins ago too!
I've rowed against him........ He and Pinsent beat our crew.
Balding not Baldwin.
Is that iDave on bbc now?
I spent a lovely afternoon chatting to the mother of the man placed 5th in the 110m finals a couple of years ago. She'll be as proud as can be, and rightly so! I raise a glass of rum to her!
I posted on the same thread as the guy that errr interfered with the horsey woman.
I've jumped in a puddle on the moors to get out of the way of the brownlees and I'm above alistair in the Leeds parkrun most wins table.
I met Chris Hoys aunt once
I know all the pentathaletes, well enough to go out on the lash with them ( one was the housemate of mini transapps god father). I once cooked dinner for one of the girls in my pre married days, hoping to get my wicked way only to have to sleep in the next room while she noshed my mate...
See you after the ban.
I have got drunk with the man who was Chris Boardmans best man.
Just to confirm: it wasn't me with Miss Balding it was a mate.
I've raced with Bradley Wiggins. He won, I didn't. (Wally Gimber 2001)
I've seen the knickers of eilidh child's cousin's wife.
my daughter races against ruta the 15 year old wonder swimmer from Lithuania who trains in plymouth
Friend is an ITU triathlon referee that just refereed the 2 brothers get medals (hardly name dropping though).
Could name-drop a current rainbow jersey wearer, but it's a non-Olympic discipline, so I won't.
Could almost certainly conjure up a not-very direct link to at least one Winter Olympics attendee.
My wife car shares with Laura Weightman's neighbour.
Apparently the girl doing the mtb is from around our area. That's the best I have.
I knew a girl called Gemma Gibons (not the same one) Also knew a girl called Beth Tweddle who did gymnastics (also not the same one). A girl I used to Kayak with is now free style world champ and was doing displays at Lee valley white water course and I once overtook lizzie armtitage on a ride (until she started pedaling again and dropped me.)
brother in law was in same class at school as katherine grainger.
unfortunately i am not aware of any fumbles between them behind the bikesheds.
My first BMX was an ex-Scotia race bike, from the right era that it might have been one of Chris Hoy's. Or might not obviously.
Beat Vinokourov in a (handicap) road race.
Presented with a prize by Chris Hoy (not the same race).
Anna Watkins lives about 10 miles from me....but more impressively, one of my fb friends is friends with her on fb and tagged her in a post to congratulate her on winning gold-I AM AWESOME!!!
Tenuous: My sister goes riding with Chris Boardman's mum and has taken his kids kayaking
More tenuous: I once beat Liam Killeen in a time trial*
Not very tenuous at all: Emma Pooley was on the same team as me in an adventure race - I towed her up some of the hills on the bike leg (she was a better runner than cyclist back then). Oh, and we won!
* he went the wrong way and was DQ
My brother talked to Jess Ennis once
I got Brendan Foster's autograph at the AAA championships back in the early 80s. The guy with him also signed my program and put his event in brackets so we knew who he was...
Linford Christie (100m)
Roger Black's kids go to the same gymnastics club as my girls. I sometimes see him there, but I've never actually spoken to him.
One of my friends has a facebook profile picture with Usain Bolt. Another one has a video in which he's named and thanked by Usain* for something or other. He does mispronounce his name though.
*First name terms, you see?
I won a race once where chris hoys dad was calling out the names/doing prize presentation.. Only when the line that starts with 'and in first place...' was said,it didn't end with my name on the end.
Much confusion, discussion and peeved off-ness. Not his fault.
I can out Trump you all... 8)
I know and have sailed with (in no order)
Ben Ainslie
Paul Goodison
Ian Percy
Andrew Simpson
Nic Dempsey
Bryony shaw
Shirley Robinson
Ben Rhodes and Steve Morrison
Enough bragging from me.
I've raced with Bradley Wiggins. He won, I didn't. (Wally Gimber 2001)
I've raced with him many times - first at Herne Hill where he kept getting moved up into our group (I'm about 2 yrs older than he is) but then he'd just go on to beat all of us anyway.
That's the tenuous one, got loads of far less tenuous ones but that's not in the spirit of the thread!
I can out Trump you all...
I'm 6-time gold medal winner and Britain's most successful Olympian ever, Chris Hoy. Can you beat that?
Couple of local links to Tom Daly (closest I suppose is that one of my colleagues is his second cousin).
I have also met Claude Piquemal a couple of times -he grew up in the same village as my nan, won a couple of olympic bronzes and helped set a (briefly held) world record for the 4x100m relay. My nan still knows him and there is a little plaque over the house he was born in.
Bloke in my office met a former Olympian on a train. He got a bronze for shooting in the 70s. He said "Seeing as you didn't ask" and presented his bronze medal. We don't know his name (which makes this a rubbish name-drop).
I once shook Bradley Wiggins hand. Soon after, he began his climb to stratospheric heights of greatness. Make of that what you will.
And my BiL works for Kelloggs and met Sir Chris Hoy. He also acquired for me a Bran Flakes polo shirt bearing the signature of teh great man.
I know and have rowed with some of the GB team. I clashed oars with Sir Steve a long time ago. Oh and I capsized a gold medalist on a really cold winter's day too 🙂
A mate of mine knows Sir Chris Hoy very well from uni and I've heard the tape that they made of them all farting after a few shandys 😀
my mum and dad live in the same village as the parents of Jake Humphrey
I know he's a presenter and not a participant but hey
My sister taught Andy Murray......however i beleive thats bollocks as she's never mentioned until now, on Facebook.
During the Olympic bid process, I was a builders labourer and carried bricks to the bricky who was building a wall for someone involved in the bid process, I was informed that the previous day he had been on the phone to Lord Coe.
I used to play hockey in the same county side as Ashley Jackson, I have also been coached by, and played with, Sean Kerly, 1988 hockey gold medalist.

I met Jess Ennis when she dropped in at the British Unis Indoor Championships earlier this year.
Was once at that BMX track near Crewe at the same time as Shaznae Whatsherface
In a recent conversation with Sir Steve, we concluded that name dropping is most boring.
Sir Steve told me that he'd been talking to Sir Chris earlier and that he also agreed. 😉
Seb reckons that when that pair get together they're worse than a couple of old women. Bolty couldn't have cared less. 😐
I used to sit next to someone at work who's Mrs knows Mrs Wiggins and their kids play together. That makes us blood brothers and the Cristmas card I'm expecting will take pride of place on the TV.
I'm facebook friends with Xeno Muller, Gold medal winning Olympic rower.
I've had my photo taken by Debbie Flood, current GB Team - Womens 4x Sculler.
I met Roger Black many years ago as a wee lad. I was the wee lad, not him! 😆
I once flew with Olympic Airlines.
I once ate at the Olympic Café
I used to run with, and fairly regularly beat, Mark Lewis-Francis. I also used to be on "saying hello terms" with Denise Lewis.
Athletics clubs are pretty small communities now I think back.
