Hi

I have an old Sony Laptop which runs Windows Vista (c2008). Is this completely useless now or is there a way I can get into it? I could do with copying an old iTunes Library on there.

Many thanks

Does it boot up, if able to copy files onto a USB memory stick/device. It might be useful for Ubuntu or other linux operating system.

As a last resort, pull the HD out and put it into one of those USB caddy things. Connect via USB to new computer and browse to the files you want

Great, thanks - at present cant get it to boot up at all. Given my minimal IT skills here, simply stripping the HD out and connecting it to a USB Caddy will work? Could I connect to current work MacBook?

What’s it doing at the moment?

Does it switch on and do anything? Any messages?

If it Says something along the lines of no boot device found you might just have to go into the bios for it to find the hard drive.

Drive in to a caddy should be easy and cheap enough And then just copy anything you want off it.

You need to know which connector you have, most likely to be SATA but not sure when they switched over.

If it’s SATA then this should work
