3/4 a pint of cloudy scrumpy, fistfull of ice. Top up with Ginger Beer. A perfect summer drink.

aka a "Steady Bonkers", as taught to me by an old forumite.

Ice
Vodka
Lime Juice
top up with aforementioned Ginger beer
splash Angostura Bitters on top

Nothing quite like a Moscow Mule as an aperitif

I really, really got into ginger beer over the summer... especially with vodka!

Crabbies is my favourite, but not sure if you can get it much out of its home turf in Scotland. Second Bundaberg - if I can find the bloody stuff...

Bundaberg is good- the Aussies do a mean ginger beer. You can find it in various delis and stuff selling overpriced foreign stuff to artists, vegans and poets. Or Waitrose.

Everything with the DG logo on it is good stuff. Mmmmmmmmmmmm Red Stripe.

Fentmans Ginger Beer is the best not as sweet as Old Jamican pop.

If you're a Fifer you can get it from Cherries in St Andrews.

Anybody else prefer Fentimans to the the sweeter offerings mentioned above? My local village shop stocks both. No idea why, but I reckon the owners must be into it.

Edit - too sllllloooooowwwwwww.

Old Jamaican is nice, but give me Idris Fiery ginger beer any day!

[img] [/img]

Saw something on telly the other day saying Nigella Lawson is 50 years old!!!! I was both amazed and a little disgusted with myself.

Supermarket own brand

Don't go to www.gingerbeer.co.uk though expecting to find out about the wonderful beverage 😯

You learn something new everyday!

Surprisingly enough the most common place i have found it is Mull. I work over there all the time and the Bellachroy hotel where i stay stocks it in the bar! On the mainland in Argyll i struggle to find it if im honest...

+1, although I find diet ginger beer results in less heartburn.

You want some REAL ginger beer.

The mother of an ex-girlfriend (bear with me) used to brew the stuff. She liked her booze and could sup it like a thirsty navvy. When I first met said gf she took me home to meet the parents. The mother then gave me a pint of her "latest brew, I think it's turned out OK", she said. She joined me in a pint.

Half an hour later, after another half, self and the mother of the new gf were under the table, giggling like lunatics! And I hadn't even boffed her at that point! The gf that is, not the mother, yunnerstan'

Homebrew ginger beer FTW!

Mount Gay is rubbish. You want some proper Caribbean Rum not that mass produced stuff...

Anyways...

Take on pint glass chilled
1 Can Chilled Old Jamaica Ginger Beer
top up with Goslings Black Seal
Couple of decent glugs of Angoustura Bitters
Squeeze of lime

Dark and Stormy.

It's better if you can find a bigger glass, you get more rum.

Do not substitute any of the above ingredients though.

I like Old Jamaican it's a good brew and more available than Bundy which is great too.

If you like it hot try Marks & Spencers Traditional Extra Fiery Ginger Beer. It's got a kick like a mule (Moscow if you prefer.

It appears that Dark 'n' Stormy® is a registered trademark of Gosling's Brothers Limited. 🙄

I'm guessing that changing rum wouldn't make that much difference.

+1 for Bundaberg, but making your own can't be a bad idea (apart from the mess)
