CynicAl, Leffeboy and I are just back from a weekend bike tour. Along the way we passed the old (it looks to have been renovated)AA box on the north side of the Cairn o'Mount.
I think there also used to be another north of Blairgowrie on the Glenshee road too.
When I joined the AA back in the 80's, I was issued with a diamond shaped key to open any of the network of boxes to ring for assistance. I never even stopped for a peek inside one.
Are there any survivors near you, pics would be appreciated.

Can't post pics but I know of one at mere near knutsford and further afield one between Grasmere and Keswick...
The road from Aberfeldy to Tummel Bridge at the Schehallion junction has one I think.

Yes we cycled past it last week - its got historical importance due to the Lynmouth flood.

Is there still one on the road from grasmere to Keswick or did it get destroyed in the flooding?
The AA are one of our customers, I did a site visit once and it's... weird.
They have military ranks as part of their internal structure. They don't have team leaders or middle management, they have lieutenants, colonels and sergeants.

Box 442 a gradeII listed building, used to pass it regularly in the summer between ski lake and caravan site.
There's one outside the Natyffin pub on the A40 a few miles outside Crickhowell, was restored a while back.
I may have been inside it a few times before restoration while waiting for a taxi after hours in said pub 😳 😆

I passed the one on Dava Moor a few weeks ago, just as the heavens opened. Prompted the thought that I still have an old AA key somewhere!
It was a wonderful system. If you broke down you only had to walk 10 miles or so to be able to phone for assistance.

On the B1340, to the North of the village. It's well covered by trees and is hard to see when you drive past.
It's now a Grade II listed building.
