Off to LV in a fortnight and will be there for 4 nights.

What are the MUST dos? No MTBing, though as I will be doing that in Flagstaff, Sedona and Palm Springs.

Your thoughts please.

BTW, I will have the wife with me, so keep it tasteful.

A couple of really good things in LV.......go do one of the roller costers at the top of the stratosphere tower (I did the heli - spinny one, great fun)

Go see the gardens at the Bellagio
Watch the fountains at the Bellagio with a drink in your hand (you can drink on the street)

too tame??

see how far you can run up the side of the luxor (dont get caught)

and always tip your cocktail waitress well, you will not pay for a drink all night!!

See one of the show's (we saw the cirque de soleil one called Ka at the MGM Grande) but get last minute tickets from the little booth/shop next to the big Coca cola shop thing (wander along the strip and you'll see what I mean!). We also did a morning helicopter trip along the Grand Canyon and hoover dam which included a champagne breakfast on the side of the canyon which was a really nice way to start the day :). P.S. leave wallet in room when you hit the gambling floor's or it get's expensive quickly!

Watch the Movie 'Go' for a little inspiration, or maybe the movie 'Very Bad things'

They are all that comes to mind when asking about an place, in a dessert, where the casino's have no windows, but extra oxygen pumped into the rooms to keep you awake and excited!

There's plenty going on during the evening/night to keep you busy but if you're at a loose end during the day - this is fun

When I went, I was on a tight budget and it's really not the way to do Vegas. Found I was constantly doling out money, dollar bills here and there everytime someone opens a door for you. I stopped doing it in the end, it just gets silly.

The place revolves around casinos; if you're going to partake then you need to budget a set amount for gaming and stick to it. It's all designed to take money off you, so don't labour under any delusions that you're going to win, and don't go over what you've budgeted.

Some of the shows are pretty good; again, not cheap, but probably worth a punt.

There's always stuff outside of Vegas too - I wanted to do the helicopter ride through the Grand Canyon, but again I couldn't afford it at the time. I've heard tell it's overpriced for what it is, but I'd probably still do it given the chance.

One of the best things when I was there was the Star Trek Experience at the Hilton Hotel. Cheapest place in Vegas to get drinks, and one of the coolest, but I don't think it's open any more.

Couple of things we found in Vegas aside from the gambling -
-there's a fantastic water-park. Massive slides etc great when it's hot.
-ride the roller coaster around the top of the Stratosphere tower... ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

[img] [/img]

- try to take a photo in a casino without getting thrown out. Good laugh that one.

Grunty

Do's
See the fountains outside the Bellagio
Have the buffet diner at the Bellagio
See the Amazing Johnathan at the Harmon Theater
Go downtown and see the lights and have a beer in the Main Street Station
Take a helicopter flight to the Grand Canyon
If you are going to gamble then get a players card for complementary food/drink
Tip the cocktail waitress
Hold your breath when you go in the Venetian as it smells of popuri!
See the conservatory in the bellagio
See the lobby in the Palazzo
See the Classic car collection in the Imperial Palace
Keep an eye on limits for blackjack and roulette as they go up without warning
Take lip balm/mosturiser (it is hot and very dry and your lips will crack!)
Use the Duece or ACE buses to get around
Look around the Wynn
People watch

Don't

Eat in the Imperial Palace
Pass out when you find out how much a beer costs (sit at a slot machine and wait for a waitress and tip her for drinks)
Drink "Lite" beer as it tastes like battery acid
Stray away from the neon as it can be scary.
talk about religon or politics as you will get into an argument
Eat in the Excalabur
Get lost in the MGM
Don't get upset when you get handed cards offering special "services" from the mexicans just ignore them and they will leave you alone
Take anything out the mini bar and put it back as they are weight sensitive and you will get charged.
Gamble more than you are willing to loose.

Have a great time as the place is a bit Marmite.. you'll either love it or hate it.

Steve

I think someone here posted a fail-proof method for ALWAYS winning at roulette. Follow that and you will pay for your holiday. I have no idea why others do not do this ๐Ÿ˜€

Crazy Horse 2

Have a walk out round Red Rocks

These two things should quite nicely balance each other out whilst providing a feast for your eyes...

Highly recommend a canoe/kayak trip on the Colorado, we started at the Hoover Dam and paddled 12 miles downstream.

We arranged canoe hire through Desert Adventures but you can do escorted trips too. They pick up from Las Vegas hotels

The Carnival World Buffet at the Rio is ace too

Change your 4 nights to 3 nights.

Blag a free upgrade of room in your hotel. NEVER pay more than $40 dollars through expedia then phone them to ask for a change of room cause you don't want the crap ones.

DO NOT stop for guys with clipboards in the street- they come right at you with their hands out asking you to shake their hand etc. They WILL call you an asshole - just walk away.

Drink LOTS of water - it's bloody hot and dry.

Take spare shoes, you will do a lot of walking.

The strip is not straight - it is curved as an optical illusion to make it look bigger and busier.

The coffee is invariably crap.

Bar staff are miserable.

Everyone wants a tip. Everyone.

Book any day trips with a recognised agency not some Hells Angel in the back of a tourist shop.

Otherwise it's an eye opener! Get a high floor room too with a good view. Amazing place at night.

Get the 'Time Out' guide to LV - it explains everything and is usually kept up to date - fascinating when you understand the place better.

I love the place.

Might be a bit pricey with exchange rate at the moment.

Fashion Mall and Caesars's forum for shopping.

If you can take a couple of days off and go to Grand Canyon (national park) not Grand Canyon West. GC West is ok but GCNP is whoa!

Go walking at night and go crazy using camera night mode taking pics of Strip

We did Jubilee showgirl show in Ballys which was tits and feather head dresses and a spectacle. Saw cirque du soleil Ka and O. Ka was good, O was better

Go and get your pictures taken at the LV sign. 15 minutes walk south of Mandalay Bay

have a look on the Trip Advisor forum for lots more advice

Edwards AFB is pretty close, so you could possibly check that out. My brother went out to LV some years back with some mates to visit Edwards. They just drove onto the base and parked up, got out and just wandered around taking photos of taxiing F16's and F14's. Suddenly a Jeep drove up and a guy in uniform ran over, with them all thinking 'oh crap, we're in the doodoo here', when he handed them ear protectors and warned them about damaging their hearing, then drove off! Leaving four camera wielding tourists looking at each other going 'Wa'!' probably wouldn't happen now, though.

I love the place, Usually stay in Bellagio. Last two times had penthouse suites (Work was paying)

Buffets are ok, but can get a bit samey and you have to fight the fat americans. Breakfast one is only worthwhile one. Agreed play on the slots and tip the waitresses and you dont pay the silly drinks prices

A,Your Wife will love it,

B; Follow the Mall all the way round to the fountain come robotic attraction - look to the right - spot the Exotic Car shop - go in - pay $5 dollars and go drool round the showroom - absolutely fantastic - proper boys toys - come out of the Garage - sit in the Ferrari or what ever super car they are using - have your photo took and get your entry fee knocked off the price of the photo - SUPERB... ALSO - go up the Eifel Tower when its dark - THE VIEW IS FANTASTIC..

Grunty - where are you staying?

We had drinks at a bar called Mix in The Hotel at Mandalay Bay. Great Strip view on an evening.

Go see the lions in MGM - I nearly shat myself when the lioness jumped on the glass roof above me.

Champagne breakfast buffet in the Wynn - $35 iirc and eat and drink as much champagne as you want.

If you are into nice bars/parties etc then there are plenty of exclusive places to go.

Plenty of pool parties around but tbh they weren't my thing, just lots of weird men standing in the pool letching over the women dancing around

The Lamborghini bar/showroom was surprisingly a nice place to relax.

Oh and as above helichopper flight over the GC

Do go and see the Cirque du Soleil show 'O' - it's absolutely stunning, and the highlight of the trip for both me and the wife. And believe me, it takes a lot to impress her.

Take a couple of good books - no bookshops in Vegas.

Try the Bungy Jump at Circus Circus - it's great.
