How is there footage mid flight with the main wheels retracted? It looks to still be cruising pretty high, and that is going to probably compromise the airspeed surely!?

I don't really think it's that impressive TBH, it's the underside of a plane...

njee20 - the older 747s had a gravity drop mechanism for each set of gear. Presumably he pulled that for the nose gear and then used the normal controls for the rest.

Wow, I sound drunk from what I wrote!

I was aware they could be lowered independently, it looks to be a 744 anyway, I'm pretty sure it's not just the 'classics', it's possible on anything. I was more thinking of the protocol and the effects of doing it.

He does say in his description that "the phrase "non-standard" cropped up in the landing brief."

Pook - Non standard refers to the Chris King bottom bracket they had fitted

Pook - non-standard means that they will be conducting the approach in a different order than that given by their Standard Operating Procedures, as in using the gravity extension for the nose-gear.

Don't know when the gear is dropped on a 747 (I fly the Airbus) but probably not as far out as on the video.

This guy must be Southern African... Balleka means 'to run away'
