If Chris Evans paid £5.5m for one of the cars in 2008, how have they been clueless regarding the possible value for the past 6 years?

Apparently it was hidden under newspapers. But really there aren't many people in the western world who don't know that Farrari and Masserati and valuable brands. I'd say they just decided to cash in.

It's still not as good as the russian rocket engines. But pretty damn good.

Every time I go into my garage I see a forgotten motorbike covered in crap, but it's not been there for long enough to count as a barn find. Maybe if I stay out of the garage for a couple of weeks?

Put it in a barn.

There's an Iron Horse Sunday in my loft, doubt I'll ever use it again. If I leave it up there do you think some young 'un will be amazed to find it up there one day questioning why anyone would leave such an amazing machine to rot...

There was a garage owner not far from me who died recently. He had a stash of cars very few people knew about.

The family were uncertain of their market value. There was a Ferrari Dino that was really badly rusted, just about every panel was holed, even the door and bonnet hinges were rusted. A dealer approached them and offered £40k for it.

That piqued their interest so their lawyer suggested they put it to auction. I think it was Coys at Silverstone. It made £130k with commission. A South African guy bought it. He was going to have it shipped home and restored. It would cost easily the same again to restore it and there would still be a profit in it.

I also saw an original unrestored Aston Martin DB2/4, it had a beautifully patina, Claret paint and I think a Bedford Cord interior. It ran and looked really sound. I saw it just before it left for auction.

My grandfather had a collection of special cars that he stored on his farm up near Carnoustie. He was a vet, so was always having a nosey when out treating animals. He had a couple of really nice twenties Sunbeams, a thirties Rolls Royce and a thirties Bentley. The farm was next to the army camp at Barry Buddon. He acquired an old wartime Humber staff car and a couple of big trucks. He had more space than mechanical ability, so he'd run things until something would break, then he'd push them into a shed and buy something else, they were really cheap after the war and into the fifties.

Most were eventually sold, but I was given a 1932 Morris Major Six that my father was given when he was an engineering student at St Andrews. He dismantled it in the fifties and did nothing more with it. I inherited a box of bits and rebuilt it.

I really enjoyed the process. I met a load of really nice enthusiasts that helped me out. The world of vintage Morris cars is more down to earth than the caddish types that own Ferraris.

I'm intrigued how people can have huge barns filled with cars and not be wondering if they can make some money from them. Especially if there's a ferrari or maserati badge on the front.

I had a garage find once, a Alfa 1600 GT Junior. I restored it and drove it around as a daily car, this during the craze of escalating classic car values and poncy concours condition "don't touch my car matey" types.

Got a car, use it.

I know where there's a beautiful Scimitar SE4 sat in an old mill right now. The owners of the mill aren't even sure who it belongs to but seem reluctant to get rid of it. My dad and my brother have made enquiries about it over the years but always get turned down (both have had maintenance contracts there)

One of these but it's in a slightly darker blue.

The guy over the road from me has a Lambo Miura in his garage. He normally drives a wreck of a 205 with a drainpipe exhaust and dresses like a tramp. His main occupation is sitting in bars which means he is too busy to repair the gearbox so the Miura hasn't turned a wheel for years. His anti-theft device is a Transit parked across his drive, which also hasn't turned a wheel in 13 years. Apparently he has other cars in storage. If the house doesn't fall down on the car before he dies it'll be a nice "garage find" for someone. In the meantime he gives the other neighbours something to moan about whilst being the discreetest, quietest, least troublesome guy on the street.

Some people just don't know, or care, about cars or anything to do with them. If that's somewhere really rural in France, (not looked at the article), then I'm not entirely surprised the people don't realise what's parked in the barn.
I know lots of people who wouldn't have a clue!
