On a more serious note, my niece took a nasty fall a few years ago and landed straddling the back of a kiddies chair. The side supports stood proud of the back and she quite literally was 'penetrated' by one of them.
This was no laughing matter. Presenting a four year old at A&E with a penetration wound like that, with internal bleeding and splinters caused quite a bit of concern. Both my brother and sister-in-law were interviewed by social services and thankfully no one concluded it was anything other than my niece's (well documented) proneness to accidents (she had already lost the tip of a finger in a door at a supermarket and had to have it stitched back on. Her mum had the foresight to use a bag of frozen peas to keep it fresh while they waited for an ambulance).

Joking aside ("he doesn't do it all the time, just comes in cycles"), the sentence seems a bit harsh to me. If he was doing it in the town centre fair enough, but behind locked doors? He was in his own bedroom FFS, I'm pretty sure I've breached the peace in a few bedrooms myself over the years.
