I’ve got about 3 half bottles in the fridge you’re welcome to

You can get tonic syrup / concentrate, which you could just make up with still water rather than soda - BTW and Jeffreys do them, doubtless quite a few others too.  http://www.btw-drinks.com/shop/btw-tonic-syrup    https://www.jeffreystonic.com/product-page/copy-of-jeffrey-s-original-recipe-250ml-c-10-serves

and why does tonic always go flat even though you screw the lid back on tightly? Sort of forces you to finish the bottle in one go...

Dunno, it definitely goes flat quicker than sugary pop though.

You can get fizz-keeper things to pressurise the bottle which helps, or just use them little one shot cans. Life's too short for poor G and T. Which brings me onto, why would you want flat tonic OP?

I made a GnT with flat tonic once. Everything else was bang on, good gin, good tonic, ice etc but the end result was minging.

Thats a reason to use cans or small bottles. Or drink more.

I have a relative who (for various reasons) can’t drink fizzy drinks any more, but who is partial to a G&T.

Take a look at doing something interesting with the gin, straight over some ice with a bit of interesting fruit

^ or in a drink with bitters, such as the currently fashionable (& delicious) negroni.

is it the G or the T though?  The trouble is once its flat tonic doesn't really taste much like tonic - the fizz in anything alters the taste. Even sparkling water has a flavour to it so things like concentrates for making sparkling tonic will be blended to counter or compliment that carbonated taste.

Gin and Cranberry is nice though.

Or, if you can find it, dutch Oude Jenever (not Jonge Jenever) is a sort of pre-cursor to modern Gin and has a lighter / fresher taste to it that doesn't need tonic to counter it - so its nicer to drink neat, like whisky, rather than with a mixer.

We're environmentally conscious, so go for the latter solution 😉

On the whole, I’d rather have Pimm’s.

Half-drunk bottles go flat cos the CO2 bubbles out until the partial pressure equalises. Each time you open it you lose all that gas. I suspect other soft drinks are consumed quicker.

And fizz keepers don't work as the percentage of co2 in the atmosphere is too low, pressurising the small amount still in the bottle doest actually increase its partial pressure as your just adding 'air' which is almost 0% co2.

I like Gin and 7up.  Taste like opal fruits.   Although since sugar tax have had to migrate back to Fever Tree Tonic or in emergency,  Milkis.    (Korean fizzy yoghurt pop)   Gin and coke also a thing.

To stop fizzy pop going flat as quick, squeeze the bottle before sealing, so there is no air in it. It still goes flat, but seems to last a bit longer that way
