Anyone recommend a pair of reasonably priced noise reduction headphones for long Aeroplane trip

Do you mean the active noise reduction types, the powered ones?

I have some of the in ear type as I find them easier to sleep in. I think mine are made by Panasonic and cost me about £60. They do a great job of reducing the drone of an aircraft which means less volume when listening to films or music or, with no input, relative quiet to sleep.

Another recommendation for noise-isolating in-ear phones rather than over-engineered and poor-performing 'noise-cancelling' ones. They work far better, are much more portable and (for me) significantly more comfortable to wear over extended periods.

I fly 100-150,000 miles each year and am constantly amazed that anyone bothers with noise-cancelling headphones.

+1 for the CX300s - should get 'em under £20 on the interweb.

If you can spend more the Shure range are really good from £50 up to £stratospheric.

I have some Bose QC and they are great. I fact my music is barely audible as I'm really just using them for some peace and quiet.

I've had the CX300's and they're fine, but the Denon AH-C252's are better sounding, and Ultimate Ears MetroFi 220vi's are better than both. I wear a pair every day as I run some pretty noisy folding machines, and they do a great job of reducing the noise by a fair bit; -26dB according to UE. They fit well, if you get the right sized eartips, or use the soft foam ones provided, which many people prefer. One tip, run the lead up the back of your ear and over the top so microphony through the lead is very much reduced, and there's much less risk of the 'phones being yanked out of your ear. I've been using mine for over a year, after I broke the jack on a pair of Superfi 4vi's. They were replaced by a pair of SuperFi 5vi's
under warranty, and both get used all the time. I can't recommend them highly enough, really good, well balanced sound with full bass that's tight and tuneful.

daveob I also have the Bose headphones and they are great. Perhaps one day we can walk down to the back of the plane and let -m- try them. 🙂

Shure E2C with the expanding foam sleeves are quality and you shoul be able to pick them up for about £50.

I bought some Panasonic Noise Cancelling ear phones last year, they seem to do the trick, I think I paid around £35.

I also have the Bose headphones and they are great

..and hideously over-priced, bulky to carry round (and wear), fall off when you sleep and overly complicated...

But otherwise they're a fantastic solution 😉

Certainly they're not going to fit with the OP's request for something that's "reasonably priced"!

I should point out -m- that I got them for nothing after they'd be bought for a job we were doing and you can't get better value than that. I wouldn't have paid that sort of money for them. But having said that they work very well and I've worn them for hours on end and find them very comfortable.

I also have some in ear Sony units but find that they fall out of my ears because they are heavy due to the microphones on the sides.
