Was joking with a class about how youth is wasted on the young and that they were all born after the good music stopped.

Had a realisation that I was born closer to WW1 than now. How the....??!!!??

I had a similar thought this year - I was born 22 years after the end of WW2 and this year was 22 years since the millennium. Crazy.

No! Doesn’t time fly.

Correct. "Time flies" is a mistranslation. Tempus fugit means time flees - it runs away from us. It's where we get works like "fugitive" from.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm just off to wash my anorak.

not sure that’s true - flee/flie/fly are synonyms (or were, historically)… “take flight”, etc. So anachronistic perhaps, rather than wrong.

Yeah, mistranslation was perhaps the wrong word... "misinterpretation" maybe?

Cf. Gandalf fighting the Balrog, "fly, you fools!" He means run away.

Time flies when I'm down the pub.

Less so when sitting with family.

This is the first thing
I have understood:
Time is the echo of an axe
Within a wood.

I was born about equidistantly time wise from when Sitting Bull died. He died 66 years before I was born & I'm now 66.

That must be after tax. My stepson earns more than that with Freightliner.

Which means he's not going on strike.

Time marches on never ending,
Time keeps its own time,
Here we stand at beginning,
And then goes passing us by

The mp3 format is as old today as the 8-track was when mp3 was released.

29 years apart, 1964/1993/2022.

Ooh good game. I'll play. The relevant year for me is 1884.

The International Meridian Conference in Washington, D.C., fixes the Greenwich meridian as the world's prime meridian.

Thomas Parker built a practical production electric car in Wolverhampton using his own specially designed high-capacity rechargeable batteries.

But of most interest to STW:
Angelo Moriondo of Turin is granted a patent for an espresso machine.

It is a good game. 1898 for me and that throws up this remarkable gentleman !!
