Meeting some friends for a walk and pub lunch. Best location seems to be around Newbury for the M4 and A34 access. Any suggestions for a nice walk (with dogs) and maybe a good pub for Sunday lunch. Probably around 5 to 10 miles or so. Currently thinking about watership down or walbury hill which look ok on the map and no idea pubs but open to suggestions

Watership Down can be really nice if the weather is fair. Bel and the Dragon at Kingsclere was great for food, but haven't been since the pandemic.

Goring down the river to Pangbourne, but it's not exactly 'secluded' as there's likely a fair few walkers.

From the town itself, either allong the canal, or Donnington Castle and the surrounding parks (there's a footbridge over the A34 to Snelsmoor common at the golf course).

Or if you're driving to Newbury, just head up the B4494 a few minutes to the Ridgeway.

Park just west of Goring and Streatley golf club on Rectory Road, you can then do a circular walk via the Bell at Aldworth and the Ridgeway. It's not a Sunday lunch place, but really nice, good rolls and tasty beer

You can walk from Thatcham train station along canal to Rowbarge, get tanked up and then train back!

Take yourself out to Kintbury and from there walk up Inkpen beacon and the highest point in southern England, Walbury Hill.

You could walk from one to the other too! Both Wayfarers Walk.

How far do you want to walk? Some nice walks from Walbury Hill or Combe Gibbet (Highest point in Berkshire)

The Jack Russell in Faccombe, nice circular walk from there

Or the Crown & Garter near Inkpen.

Both pubs a short drive from Walbury Hill / Combe Gibbet.

Both really nice pubs.
