Me and the missus are thinking of doing Friday night in Manc. Any suggestions for a nice mid-price hotel?
Great John St but probably not mid-priced. Good place to take the Mrs though.

The Palace Hotel on Oxford Road has been renovated, and renamed the Principal.
Looking at about £95 for a Friday night.
The attached restaurant, The Refuge is pretty damn good as well!
The Abel Heywood - ask for a loft room. Lovely hotel and nice pub.
Team are amazing - I stay weekly due to work commitments and they are the best. Tell them John Munro reco'd them.
Hotel Football is pretty nice - really good food as well.
I stayed there a year or so back for a work training course. Would definitely stay there again, and I hate football.
Great John Street used to do some late availabilty offers around £100/night.
Does lastminute.com still do the secret 5* hotel offer without letting you know where you're staying till you've booked? Probably can't go far wrong with those but if not there's
Radison Edwardian - used to have a good restaurant and has pool
Malmaison
or any of the usual chains. You also have:
Midland - but will be pricey
Hotel Gotham - but will be pricey
Malmasion any good anymore - used to stay there a fair bit on business as handy for the train
Worsley park Marriot nice as well if you wanted somewhere on the outskirts - however all of my usage is business
Stayed at the Crowne Plaza numerous times. Wasn't particularly expensive either. Very nice hotel.

Hotel Gotham is great, worth paying a bit extra for IMHO.
If you're driving you can't beat the Novotel on Portland Street for ease of access; there's a car park right under the hotel and you get a discount. It's on the edge of Chinatown and there's a superb Indian resturant just opposite the door as well as a Holts pub fifty yards away and the very inspirational City Art Gallery if you're into that kind of thing. Also handy for Canal Street. I always put my overseas visitors there and they all seem to like it. The rooms have been refurbished and the sound-proofing is good.
I've stopped in a few different ones and found
MacDonald to be the nicest - nice big rooms.
