Will be heading back from a few days in Wharfedale and Cumbria (not the Lakes) down the A1(M) the week after next, getting on at Scotch Corner. Looking for a one night stay in a campsite in the van (don't need hookup) but don't want to stray too far from that road. Preferably with a good pub within a mile and some nice walking nearby would be nice...any recommendations?

How far down (south I assume) the road, it's a fairly big swathe of the country comes under the banner of "a few miles from the a1"

Anything between Scotch Corner down to maybe Chesterfield area - too close to home any further south! 😉

How long are you staying for? "How" good for the walking and how important is the hook up?

There's a site at the end of my village, decent pub or four within walking distance, varying from about a mile maybe for the village pub to a few for the others (one of them is a crap walk though) 10 minutes max from a1 Boroughbridge.

There is a site on the A66 not far from Scotch Corner called Thorpe Farm. About 10 miles from the A1 junction, it has a pub and a walk to it in Greta Bridge. Though this might be a bit of a short journey from the Lakes.

The Old Station Caravan Park in Masham. Well, just outside Masham, they take tents too. Lovely site, 15 mins walk from Masham which is lovely and has some good pubs not to mention 2 breweries.

Give Johnny Vegas a call

£500 is probably a bit steep for an overnighter.
