Looking for something to play at watersports on the beach.  Last summer on Mull some other kids had a cheapo inflatable kayak which was brilliant.

We have snorkels and the kids have body boards.  I fancy a grownup bodyboard myself, possibly considering a kayak but tbh it's just going to be going up and down a beach in 5ft of water which probably isn't worth it.  Any other suggestions?

I want to stress I am not looking to get 'into' anything and spend tons of money and invest loads of time learning. Just something more interesting than buckets and spades.

I did see that you can get Optimist sailing boats for £300 on ebay though which I might enjoy, and although I sailed one just fine as a kid I doubt I'm capable enough to do that on a beach and not get blown half way to Ireland 🙂 Plus only big enough for one.

Sup? Kayaking is great but if its just for playing on with kids stand up paddle board would be good as thay can sit on it and play and if there is 1ft of waves u can try surfing it

Sup makes sense.  Sit on top kayak would work too.  Understand wind and tides to avoid become a statistic though.

unless you are very short and flexible then as an adult you will be way too big for an Oppie.  Plenty of cheap dinghies around but they are cheap because they’ve been neglected or little used, and you will do the same making them unreliable, or need work which further stops you using them.

Power kite? I believe they're fun, not that I've been fortunate enough to try one. 😶

Remote control cars? Something fun to build and fun to play with. Not much to hit on a beach, so should last a while if you keep them clean and wash the salt off.

Beach cricket is fun and cheap. Kids love it.

Distance throwing Frisbee. Line in the sand marks distance. Beat Daddy and win an ice cream.

Bigger spades

This. We moved from small plastic spades through small metal spades to garden grade tools as kids until our sandcastles were large and strong enough to support two grandparents. Make them ambitious
