SWMBO has announced that she'd like to spend NYE26 in Scotland. I am not against this idea so I'm looking for suggestions of nice foresty places to stay for 4 adults and a dog.
I've already looked at Glentress but £3k for a week is somewhat steep...
Why a "forestry place" btw?
Argyll - Inverary? Or Aberfoyle? Kingussie - more tourist stuff and drier/colder.

Anything in Scotland at new year will make that look good value.
Drier is good. Not set on Glentress (luckily, at those prices...) but looking for somewhere dog friendly with nice walks and maybe some trails.
If it was me I would be looking for somewhere near Comrie as gives you access to a brilliant way to bring in the new year.

Just booked a house in Aviemore for 800 quid. Not in a forest, but close to some woodland and NCR7.
Let me know if you want recommendations for dog walking areas, though most of the forest tracks will be just fine. The pubs are all pretty dog friendly too. In fact I think they're mandatory at the Old Bridge given there were eight dogs in the wee bar area the other night.
Aaaaand, this morning I get an email cancelling the reservation because I didn't book for a week. Apparently the booking portal is at fault but that doesn't help me... 🤬
That doesn't surprise. So many places need a week now.
It’s prime rental time in the area, so they can sell accommodation many times over around the festive period. If you went in February outwith holiday times you’re likely get it for buttons.

Unless you can do the changeover yourself shorter than a week's rental just makes no sense financially. For context, the going rate for a changeover by a company is £175 for a 3 bed, 3 bathroom house in the Highlands. In 2025. And that's not including laundry - another £50-60. When you add a welcome pack (pretty much expected now if you don't want -ve reviews) at another tenner and you are talking £240-250 every time you change guests.
OP - check out Sykes (our booking agents) - they have some pretty bizarre ideas about Christmas and New year bookings and pricing - forcing owners to use a specific changeover day (you can choose whatever works for you the rest of the year) and their pricing structure does not uplift prices half as much as you'd expect....so we come off their books in the winter. But those people who do remain available with the. Might not be as expensive as you'd imagine.
But yeah - given a lot of owners close for the winter and the peak demand for those few peak days, it's not always easy to find a goodun if you really want/need it to be NY.
And.....why would you not want a whole week 😀🏴🥃🚴♂️⛷️🐕🦺🍺🌳🗻❄️⛄
I'd look at Kippford, next to Dalbeattie trails and walks as well as a bit of coastal action.

Oh agreed, that's why I said need not want.

Agreed. D&G is overlooked, but it’s lovely.

My wife works in hospitality so getting any time off at that time of year is difficult.
