Have not bought tyres for a car for nearly ten years due to changing car before the need arose, I need to get a pair of 235/40 R19 (current OE fit is Continental). A quick google pops up prices ranging from £75 to £200 for various brands, the Contis being around £180! Any advice? .... starting to think should've carried on trading in every two years might've been more economic! 😀

I'd check out the OE's reviews to confirm they were a solid tyre then buy more of them, or the cheaper recommended alternative any review will mention, if nothing else.
Decide on the tyres you want, check out mytyres/blackcircles prices then phone your local fitters. Don't just wander up and let them fit what they have to hand..
Personally I don't skimp on car tyres, as that what keep you from sliding off the road, but I'm not looking for a high performing tyres either.

Thanks, I'm lucky to have a good reputable local business just up the road so hopefully should be able to get sorted there but just wanted to understand the options.

I doubt that very much, changing cars is very expensive!

I've found the Goodyear EfficientGrip a good choice in the past.  But my current car has Conti SportContact so stuck with them when I replaced recently as I like how they ride.

I certainly wouldn't get budget tyres again - tried them once on a Volvo T5 and they were dangerous at best.  Stick to a trusted brand and you should be fine, read the reviews.

I just got four tyres for the Kuga from a place called Camskill:

Mate of mine works in the trade and recommended them as the cheapest about. Obviously you then need them fitting. I liked them as they really do have a wide selection of decent tyres that are not the first you'd think of. Ended up with Cooper and they've been great so far.
