If anyone wants to be rid of their boring old 3G one I'm all ears ๐
o2 had a tweet out last night saying something about upgrades to new 4 for current customers. Goto their site and put your details in apparently.
Only problem with these nice phones - inc the 3gs is that they are lovely to handle and look at when naked but we have to wrap them up in nasty covers.
Cue more people skimping on food and clothes for their kids because they "must" have this latest phone...

*sigh*
Good to see they are catching up with some of the competition and still charging far far more ๐
That's the apple way!
Expect multitasking & video calls to suddenly be the greatest things in the world ๐

Yeah I don't really understand why folk are drawn to a particular phone because it is slim/light/stylish and then they wrap it in some huge horrible plastic cover.
I only bother with a cover when I take it somewhere it might get roughed up a bit. Day to day use I just keep it naked in my pocket.

But what about your phone? 8)

Mine has neer seen a cover. Ok the plastic back is a bit scratched and there are a few marks on the metal fascia, but theres not a blemish on the screen. I've used it biking with muddy gloves and everything. The glass of the new design is supposed to be even better so I don't see the need for these cases.
Worth noting that for the time being video calls aka Apple FaceTime will only be available over WiFi not via 3G phone network.
Mine has a cover on the back and screen protector, when I go on the bike or working I have an Otterbox case for it. Yeah it makes it ugly but it hasn't got even the tiniest of scratches on it, plan is to sell it when my contract runs out and the better the condition the more cash back.

But I had multitasking on my old Symbian Nokia, and video calling on an even older Samsung...
Besides, wasn't the BIG thing about 3G all those years ago that we'd all be video calling people by now? That obviously worked out well!
So what's all the fuss about?
Aaaah yes, Apple says it's cool now.. ;o)
Only a complete numpty would have ever claimed that the iPhone lacking multitasking was anything less than ideal but I found that it was something I can/could live with since the rest of the phone did everything very well.
Video calling - well, meh, really.
Apple have been full of marketing crap for as long as I can remember. The only difference is that a lot of normally sensible people seem desperate to believe it in Apple's case.
I think Apple has missed the point with video calling - the main advantage of using a phone is being able to lie, and you can't do it so easily when you're face to face.
Video calling - well, meh, really.
Never seen the point in video calling to be honest.
But it doesn't have real video calling anyway does it?
It's only over WiFi (cos AT&Ts 3G network can't handle the traffic yet) and it is only iPhone 4G to iPhone 4G.
All I'd like to know is have they improved the sound quality if the iPod app?
Because on my 3G, it's crap. My old Creative MP3 player is waaaay better, on the same headphones....

i have a powerbook and an ipod and used to think they were great
now i realise they are just another soulless corporation
out to squeeze as much money as possible, sure the clickwheel was innovative and the iphone got capacitance touch screens working on a phone
but their pricing structure is pure greed
and as i said earlier no 64gb? why when the ipod classic is 180
make me buy 2 devices and they can get the sheep all excited when they release the 64gb 4GS next year

The Desire is more geeky and about as "cool" as a vindaloo fart. I got one because it got great reviews and I liked it. If they did a beige version with leather patches on it, I'd still have one.

Yeah - your computer and music player just stopped working, right?

That say more about your age than your taste. ๐
Or the HTC is the best phone available at the moment. Maybe? Although I have a feeling that with Qualcomm announcing dual core Snapdragon mobile phone processors now shipping, that both the Desire and JesusPhone could well be eclipsed in the not too distant future!
While Apple might be just in the lead techwise at the moment, the A4 processor does seem to be pretty perky, I just can't see them keeping that lead for very long at all.
The interesting thing is going to be that Google have just announced that Android is going to a yearly release cycle... but when? Just before Apples to try and steal all the funky bits and say they did it first? Or just after so they can see what Apple are doing and try and trump it?
But at least I can't be accused of following the crowd, I had my Desire on the day it was released.. ;o)

+1 (well the version I have anyway!)

And I had an iPod Touch, then an iPhone, before they were the must have accessory, because they were the best thing available at the time, but still I get called a Fanboi Sheep, because it happens to be made by big nasty Apple Inc, rather than cuddly little Google.

(yet more sarcasm from applefanbois, you guys really arent aware how predictable you are?)
well the ipod keeps messing up and i have to restore it and reload all my music
im not complaining its lasted 3years and seen a lot of abuse
but my mates sony and creative both have better sound quality, weve done comparisons and that pi$$es me off
the powerbooks fine, but theres no way id pay for it again compared to what else is out there
ill admit i was suckered in by the lovely macness of it all but it is waay overpriced

I just looked [out of interest], and the 02 site is telling me I can only upgrade in the last month of my current contract.
<sharp intake of breath>
Oh dear Kimbers, you'll incur the wrath of the fanbois - there's nothing they hate more than a former cult member who's got out ๐

it seems 02 will give me ยฃ175 for my battered 18 month old 3G. i was gonna give it to my wifes brother but I think I'll be subsidising my new 4.
what I like about the anti-apple crowd is that they are generally the same mob that will happily spend out on chris king headsets, thompson seatposts, XTR drivetrains when they are cheaper alternatives that will do the exactly the same job.
Its a choice. I choose to spend my employers money on a beautifully designed phone....
jam bo, where did you find that info? (about the ยฃ175 trade in value)
Hold on jambo... as style over function goes, surely it should be the Apple peeps who fall into that camp... while wearing their sisters jeans and riding fixies... ;o)
Will the HTC "fanbois" be rushing out for the new HTC Evo 4G?
(It looks really quite nice as well)

edit: bugger, should have sold it yesterday, its gone down by ยฃ20...
