I'm no fanboi, but my 3G is a great bit of kit so I'll probably get one (albeit that BBC link gives very litte detail).
24% thinner.
cripes, that practically makes the previous model useless i guess!
it may be thinner but it looks a whole lot taller and wider ๐
Os4 available on 21st June. That's what I'm interested in. Will now be able to run gps logging in the background which will make that much better.
Mine will be on order as soon as it's available. My 3g is starting to get tired...
Gizmodo have a nice guide - despite not being invited!

Hmmm...
The gyro is an interesting addition - makes Augmented Reality apps a lot easier to implement than just using the accelerometers.
Better battery life would be good (if true).
And a nicer screen is always good.
Video Calling I'm really not arsed about though.
bit disappointed - I really wanted a 64gig phone (my iPOD touch 32 gig is nearly full), but they aren't doing one.
which means I need to decide if I want to wait another year, carrying 2 devices around with me before I get one (when inevitably the 64 gig version will arrive)
I'll see what the UK pricing is going to be and see then - 3GS will be 8gig only in the future so that is not an option

Me too. Looks like I'll wait till next year.
I'm disappointed in the 32Gb, but my 3G is full up, it's now eighteen months old and getting very tired, and my contract was up last month, so it's upgrade time. The new features make it a no-brainer, stainless steel frame, high impact glass front and rear, 5Mp camera with iMovie editing and 720p video, iBooks with integrated PDF reading from attachments, much better battery life, so no more external battery pack, same size screen with four times the pixel count, A4 processor...it's pretty much got everything I could want. As my current phone is in constant use, the tougher exterior is going to make a big difference.
Ive only just picked up a 3gs, will see what the new OS gives me before i even think of upgrading, might get one christmas time maybe
LMT: plenty of details about the new OS online:

quote from BBC
The device will go on sale on 24 June. The US price for the 32GB model is $299 (ยฃ206) and $199 (ยฃ137) for the 16GB model. Apple said prices might be affected by contract conditions.
fat chance of that sort of pricing over here though is there - as usual we'll pay extortionate amounts for it
It does look smart and will sell by the bucketload.
Expect this new IPhone to cost more than all the others when new I would say at least ยฃ650 for the 32 GB.
So how exactly does a US price of $299 translate as ยฃ650? Or are you perhaps getting the iPhone and iPad mixed up? Easy mistake to make, after all, they both start with 'i'.
And for those who think it ought to run Flash, perhaps you should read this:
"Adobe late Friday warned that attackers are exploiting a critical vulnerability in the company's most widely-used software: Flash Player and Adobe Reader," Gregg Keizer reports for Computerworld."The zero-day vulnerability is reminiscent of one Adobe disclosed and patched in July 2009, and comes just days after the company's head of security admitted hackers have its software in their crosshairs," Keizer reports.
"Adobe said that the bug affects Flash Player 10.0.45.2, the most up-to-date version of the popular media player, as well as older editions on Windows, Macintosh, Linux and Solaris," Keizer reports. "Also vulnerable: PDF viewer Adobe Reader 9.x and PDF creation software Adobe Acrobat 9.x on Windows, Macintosh and Unix."
"Hackers are already exploiting the flaw. 'There are reports that this vulnerability is being actively exploited in the wild against Flash Player, Reader and Acrobat,' the company said in a security advisory issued around 3:30 p.m. PT Friday," Keizer reports.
"Danish bug tracker Secunia rated the threat as 'extremely critical,' the highest ranking in its five-step scoring system. The U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT), an arm of the federal Department of Homeland Security, also posted a warning of the vulnerability," Keizer reports. "Attackers exploiting the flaw may be able to hijack the targeted computer, Adobe acknowledged."
ffs no 64gb option
bstards want us to buy an ipod and an iphone
no thanks, wonder if there will be deals on a desire now, hmmmmmmmm
Gizmodo User:So is it just me, or doesn't it seem like each new OS takes almost every idea from jailbreak?
+1.
The prices quoted in the states are with a 24month contract so holds no relevance to what we will pay in the UK.
Yeah just get the 64GB HTC Desire... Oh wait.. ๐
Personally I'm not strugging with 32GB. Despite have a crap load of apps, several movies, video podcasts, iTunes U lectures and a bunch of maps, i'm still sitting with 10GB free.
I just ejaculated at the thought of that stainless steel back...it'll go with my fridge freezer ๐
iPhone's don't and won't support Flash, or the forthcoming HTML5 which has integrated video streaming support.
Apple want to control the content which their users can access, so they can keep building the revenue streams with their partners via the Apple store.
There's always someone spoiling the party!
i want to replace my ipod and phone with one device
seeing as my ipod is already maxed out at 30gb and i have loads more music id like to put on
(apart from satnav not bothered about other features)
the only ipod classic apple now sell is 180gb
so i can pay 300 quid+ (plus line rental) for a 32gb iphone
or get a desire for free (plus line rental) and pay 75quid for a 32gb microsd
it still wont be ideal for me but i dont want to be dragged in by the evil apple empire if they insist on trying to get me to buy 2 devices!

Erm, not quite.
Apple are touting HTML5 as the replacement for Flash. They already have good support for it and recently produced a showcase of HTML5 pages.

err - the current iPhone already does support HTML video tag.
Rachel
US pricing is exactly as before but everything bumped down a notch - so a 3GS as the "cheap" option and the new 4 at the same prices on the same contracts as the 3GS was. I'm not expecting anything different for the UK.
Will be getting one ASAP - have had my 3G since launch day which seems very slow now next to the 3GS, so speed boost over that plus better screen, better battery life, better camera, better radio reception, noise cancelling mic, plus a load more storage would be quite worthwhile.
Probably a stupid question but is it possible to buy in a US phone and have it run on a UK carrier?

When you click on that link, the text says...
"supports web standards including HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript. These web standards are open..."
and...
"Standards arenโt add-ons to the web. They are the web. And you can start using them today."
But when you click any of their demo links it says...
"You need to download Safari"
Can someone point Jobs at a dictionary please?
Yes, because obviously Apple should be responsible for adding HTML5 support to all browsers, not just their own ๐
Given HTML5 isn't a closed definition, I'm not quite sure how Apple can claim to be following a standard...

Cool looking forward to the software upgrade and Mrs is due a phone upgrade in a few months so think I'll persuade her to get an iPhone, well it's me who pays for it so reckon she will get one. A quick unlock and swap then and she can have mine.

iPhone 4 is glass front and back

Web standards take ages to fully ratify. Chrome, Firefox and Opera also support some of HTML5 already. Even IE will support it (eventually). If everyone waited for every i to be dotted before supporting any of it then nothing would ever get done.
It is an open standard, freely available at w3c along with all the previous versions of HTML and CSS.
Until the iPhone is cut free from the shackles of iTunes, i shant be ever considering one.
Was reading about the iPad, trying to transfer files is a right PITA.
Im loving my Andriod handset, simply because it doesnt come with all the shackles that Apple put in place.
What "shackles" does iTunes impose exactly?

Is it? I just ejaculated again! ๐

iPhone users of the world, unite! You have nothing but your chains to lose, and a world to gain!
What PPI is the screen? I heard rumours it would be over 300, which would be nice for reading, and better than print. My X10 is 270 which is just lovely.
I like the look of the new iPhone. Will not be having one as i am more than happy to be a few steps behind the bleeding (-ly expensive) edge...and will probably just upgrade to the 3GS from my 3G as they will be going cheap soon.
Incidentally, i cannot help but think in claiming the new iPhone will have a better quality screen, with a longer lasting battery in a smaller case the laws of physics are somehow being monkeyed with.

Yep, it's a 326ppi, 960?ร?640 IPS screen with an 800:1 contrast ratio.
Should look pretty nice.
Nice, the current one was just too low res for me.
Will the networks be offering upgrades to existing users? I'm 6 months into an 18 month contract with the 3Gs and simply will be wetting myself with anticipation of having the 4. ๐
