I was wandering around a flea Market yesterday and picked this up

[img] [/img]

as I thought it would be company for the old one we already had

[img] [/img]

Interesting old things, anybody else got any ? or more importantly know how could take a few snaps on them

Any info on them from those in the know would be nice 🙂

EDIT: Ironically the smart phone photos of the cameras are not great

I have a few left over from a teenage collection. As for using them, don't bother - the film is pretty much unavailable unless you're willing to cut down 120 roll film yourself. Just enjoy them as ornaments 🙂

Thats Kinda what I thought, I do like their vibe as ornaments, think I might see if i can my Dads old 35mm to add to the collection. I also have an old Canon ixus somewhere which I always thought was a rather poor camera but it did get into the design museum.

Lovely old thing, looks as if the bellows are in good order too. Fun vintage-style snaps or shelf-ware, your choice!

Here's a simple 120/620 roll mod

Some years ago I was momentarily taken with a vintage camera bug and bagged a Kodal Duaflex like this:

[img] [/img]

My (arguably perverse) intention was to take shots via the viewfinder of the camera with my digital SLR. I read you can do this by fashioning a black tube to attach to the top of the Duaflex. Have filed the idea away for now but you never know...

^ sorry yes it was an edit. They're nice aren't they? Got one with the original leather case too. They go for peanuts. Only other vintage camera I have was a gift from MR stepjunior who bought me the classic Bailey-endorsed Olympus Trip 35, also with leather case. Unfortunately the selenium solar cell seemed DOA but it's a v nice little thing. Like this one:

[img] [/img]

Good to see people like Fujifilm making cameras of this ilk again. I really do not enjoy the 'plasticky experience' of so many modern cameras, along with loads of irritating menus and submenus. I want a knurled metal dial for ISO, and I want it with some heft! It took 14 years for me to to happen along something digital with the same kind of build/ergonomics:

Super Paxette! Interesting camera for a number of reasons, but I just think it looks sorted. Do you know whichmodel it is? There should be a letter after it, 'L' model had a selenium light meter, similar tech to the Olympus Trip. I read that it was made by Braun (Germany) and excellent quality/optics. Would like one of those myself.

This may be of interest if you don't have a hard copy:

Nice! Got a few myself (my main shooter is a 35mm rangefinder from the 50's). They're often in no condition to shoot but I enjoy the unpredictability, for example this thing leaks light like a sieve and the shutter speed is a guesstimate at best:

[img] [/img]

but gives great 50s holiday snaps (my 3yo on the beach at Biarritz)

[img] [/img]

Helps of course that the format is still available and I develop at home though - I've got some Kodak Instamatics I'd love to shoot but means bodging 35mm film into a cassette and you never get around to doing that kind of thing.

There's a Pentax LX in the window of a local Oxfam, heart says buy buy buy! Head says it'll take no better pics than an MEsuper and if it goes wrong a service is more than 4x what a working MEsuper is worth!

Thanks again MR just had a quick look and it looks like a great read. The Paxette looks ace in the pics.

Bob Great shot, a real vintage feel 🙂

TINAS.. I had a quick look on Ebay and it looks like the Pentax LX's still command a fair price, most are over £100+

Yea, the one in the shop is £150 with a 50mm 1.7 which is at the very low end for working ones in good condition, the lense is worth half that so its a bargain if it works. Freshly serviced they're almost double that for a body.

If it had any guarantee or could be demo'd I'd bite their hand off.

Oooh tempting. Nice camera back in the day. I doubt you'll get much for the lens though, even the M series ones dont go for more than about £40.
Still got my Super A and the P50 that preceded it.

What a truly wonderful thread.

My two contributions:

By far my most favourite camera to shoot with is this (though it's not actually that old in itself, the design does go back a way), a Hasselblad 501c/m.

Analogue Devices by Greg Turner, on Flickr

A recent acquisition and a joy to hold and use; a Leica M4. Like the 'blad, it has no meter, no battery, is purely mechanical and this one is over 50 years old.

Buy it!
I had one years ago, but made the mistake of part exchanging it for a Canon. I've still got my MX, which was my first SLR.

To the OP - can you not buy or make your own photochromic paper and stick it in there to make a positive image? Fox-Talbot style?

Yip I think I will eventually try this although some on the "new" Cameras I bought at the weekend are 120 film so I reckon I will try these first. I have also got my BiL on the case, and he is keen on this sort of stuff, just need to catch up with him.

and....Some cracking old Cameras above " and some cracking photographs of Cameras... I think Dangerous is the word I will have to add the odd older 35mm to the budding collection.

Thanks to all who have contributed so far 🙂

Ah.. wait.. it won't make a positive image will it? It'd make a negative one since the paper darkens in contact with light.

You could then scan it and use photoshop to invert it, but that might not be what you had in mind 🙂

And....another one added to the collection. This was the last one I was bidding on (£8.20 including postage ! ) anyway not as much patina or age as the others but it is a model that I was attached to in the past, and actually lost on a flight. NO MORE FOR A WHILE....I hope.

EDIT: It's not a looker is it...I used it for caving and it never missed a beat in years.

Do any of you camera nerds want a late 90s Pentax MZ-M? Or is that not niche enough? I don't want to bin it but to be honest, no-one's ever going to use it and it's not rare or quality or anything.

Does the MZ-M still pull film through. The MZ range have a habit of stripping the film advance gears, then they're toast.
Any lenses to go with it?

Righog,

thanks for thinking about me, but I like the really old bellows type or perhaps a Rollei 35. My own Canon T70 - first camera I bought - is on permanent loan and still in use with a friend. I couldn't get rid of it, but wasn't going to use it, so was very happy that it was living out a gentle retirement with the odd roll of film going through it.

I have a few left from my Father's collection, I sold over a 130 on eBay, and still have a few Leica and lovely Russian Lomos. My main 35mm is an Olympus OM10 with a manual adaptor and for rangefinder I have a Bessa R2a.

some lovely bits of old kit here. This one of mine is from the late 50s and is in almost daily use (fresh from a CLA), and the others see a fair bit of action too but it's mostly old junk.

That's very classy Bob. I was in two minds about whether to go for an M3 or M4. I like the film winder on the M3 better and the view finder, but in the end I just knew I would regret not having a viewfinder that worked with a 35mm lens. I know you can put an OVF on the hotshoe but I wasn't keen on that idea.

Given your penchant for 35mm film, have you never been temted by Medium Format?

Mamiya C220. Needs a service as the shutter release is a bit sticky, so not been used in anger yet.

[img] [/img]

(R-L) Olympus OM-2 with a 50mm, a Canon F3 with a 50mm and my (not really retro) Fuji X-Pro 1.

The Olympus needed a new winding mechanism which was fairly pricey for repair, but both that and the Canon were free, so can't really complain. The Canon just needed a bit of light servicing and a dent taking out of the lens hood where it had been dropped, but otherwise is in fantastic condition. Bloody bomb proof camera that one.

There's also a Bronica Zenza in the collection, but finding time (HA!) to actually get out and shoot some stuff has been my biggest challenge. Hopefully that will change in the near future, so I can then post up some results.

I've still got 2 OM1's and a Nikon FM2. I'm not sure what happened to my Olympus Trip but I do still have my XA which was a fantastic little camera to carry everywhere.

I would probably use them but only if I had a darkroom again.

I've still got an Olympus OM-1 that I've owned since 1973, an M-1, which of course is '72 and a shed load of Zuiko lenses from 21 - 200mm. All in exc+ condition too, in spite of having been travelling a fair bit.
If I could only keep one body and one lens it would be the M-1 and 35/2.0.

If I could have three lenses then it would be 21/2.0, 35/2.0 and 85/2.0. Pretty much all a man needs.

When my old photographic unit closed at AWE Foulness quite a few rather nice cameras went in the skip, Some may have been rescued and gone to Aldermaston but there were a number of Nikon F3's and an F2 and an F4 which had been my camera till I decided I preferred the FM2. There was a Pentax 645 and several Hasselblads. There was also a Sinar 5x4. And that was the cheap stuff that was scrapped, the high speed cine cameras that went included E10's Hycams 1PL's and 1B's cost a hell of a lot more than the stills kit. And of course all the darkroom kit including a 16mm cine processor, enlargers and even miniprinters were also scrapped.
