New Shogun TV series

Just got through reading Shogun again for the 723rd time and, as usual, went straight to wikipedia to try to figure out who all the real life characters were.

On the Disambiguation page I noticed this link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sh%C5%8Dgun_(upcoming_TV_series)

I'm actually quite excited about this although I almost started a Twitter campaign called, 'Cosmo Jarivs, not my Anjin-san!' but I thought maybe I should give him a chance first.

Anyway, what do you reckon? 1980s version was perfect and didn't need re-doing or GoT means they can finally make it sufficiently violent to do justice to the book?

That looks amazing - notice a lot of actors from Last Samurai, but as much as I love the 70s series, this will hopefully be epic...

Hope the UK showing isn't too far after February - Ive been waiting for this since just after lockdown...!  Can we just skip Christmas and just do February please, that is unless they finally release a Folio edition of Shogun (why they haven't is beyond me) and then I'll be reading that until February...

What big dawg said.   Unfortunately the book went with my dad in 2017, so now it’s time to order my own copy, read again and share that with my son, who loves all things Japanese.

I read the book about 30 years ago and loved it, I think enough time has past to make it worth a reread.

Cosmo Jarvis doesn't "look" the part to me either, I will give it a chance but only after I have re-read the book.

Oooh! That looks good. I recall watching the series with my dad, he also had the book as he’s an avid reader.

"The sea race quickened and he felt his heart near bursting but still he strained against the press of the sea. He tried to keep his eyes focused but his vision reeled, the colors wrong and fading. The ship was in the neck and dead but just then the keel scraped a mud shoal. The shock turned her head. The rudder bit into the sea. And then the wind and the sea joined to help and together they spun her before the wind and she sped through the pass to safety.  Into the bay beyond."

I'm looking forward to this.

It's got some 'great wall' and 'last Samurai' vibes to it...

Could be good...

Not strictly New Shogun TV series, but RIP Richard Chamberlain - the original TV Blackthorn.
