[Closed] New shed requirement

I know there's a fair bit of shed craft in these parts and I'm looking for ideas. I have an upcoming requirement to build a shed, mainly for gardening purposes (bikes in an asgard, workspace in garage). So looking at construction ideas rather than anything bike specific. If you've built your own shed and have a story to tell...

For my conventional shed, I basically just built the framework on the ground, using cls timber. Decided where the windows would go(I had some from a narrowboat) and framed around them.

Spend time on the base. You don't want to have to revisit that!

Just pull your sides up and join, then clad. I did a pitched roof. I made a jig to set everything out the same then screwed together with plywood plates for support.

Pent roof is easier, but having a pitch can give you some extra storage space for gardening stuff.

If its just a shed for gardening storage I'd go and buy a shed. It'll likely be cheaper then buying the materials and you can build it in a few hours. I love a good building project but I wouldn't spend much time on it unless you have some very specific requirements.

If you do fancy a little more of a challenge then there are plenty of sheds on freecycle and facebook going free or cheap. You can either rebuild as it was or tweak the parts to your own needs. My smallest shed is on its third life now.

ive linked you to page 3 of my shed/gazebo build. not quite what youre thinking of, but you can see how i did the base over rough uneven ground. still standing and looking good 3 years later 😀

https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/inspired-by-shed-threads-do-you-think-its-possible-for/page/3/

EDIT: for some reason even tho ive linked to page 3 it goes to page 1 on my PC, so if youre the same just flit from there to page 3.

I built a 20x10 foot shed at the bottom of the garden in 3 weeks late last year.
Very simple build which cost me about 1k all in
150mm concrete base
1 row of bricks all around the perimeter
Reclaimed a load of the blue and red chep pallets that you find out the back of industrial estates and used those to form the walls and main structure.
Then I used 6x2 10ft length beams to form the sloping roof (6deg slope) which also helped pull the shed in together.
Then cladded with white upvc
Roof was done with juniper green metal roofing sheets and I was given a set of French doors to finish it all off
This is a pic of it towards the end of the build... The front cladding was put on temporary until i had some corners made up to complete.
shed

Hopefully it works

I disagree with this.

First, a cheap off-the-shelf shed is made of timber that you can't actually buy in any other way as it's so crap. That's why you can't build one for less.

Secondly, of all the DIY projects, building a shed is one of the easiest and most rewarding. I just wish I could build more of them!

YMMV

I bought a shed from these guys: https://www.northerngardensheds.co.uk/

It is pretty solid, we chatted over email and I got some custom changes made to my shed, added a few extras. Cost just over £1k, but when totting up the cost of building it myself beforehand, I just couldn't get close to the price from the above.

Thanks all. Keen to build my own for the satisfaction of it. Would like to find some wood to reuse rather then buy new, too. Time to scour Gumtree.

If you are anywhere near Bath then Wyatt Fencing are a good source of reclaimed timber. Very good prices too.
