Pretty sure I'm going to get a Chinese spy phone - Huawei P20 pro.
Mainly seen they've got pretty good reviews on the whole, any reason not to?
Pluses for me are the good camera, 128gb storage and decent sized battery.

Have been with Giff Gaff for years but looks like it would be cheaper getting a contact deal rather than buy a phone a stay on a monthly sim deal.

Has anyone used Affordable mobiles or Mobile Phones Direct as they have good o2 deals with 25gb data allowance but with 'cash redemption' Anyone else used this, seems a PITA and you have to remember to do it each month but worth it?

https://www.moneysupermarket.com/mobile-phones/p20-pro-deals/#/?contractLengths=24&data=5GB&deviceType=&giftCategories=&handsetColours=Black&handsets=f848cd9b-d1c9-4807-abb0-bcdbc090885b&includeExistingCustomers=true&includeExistingCustomersHandset=&includeRefurbished=false&includeResellers=true&internalStorage=Any&isExclusiveDeal=&isFourG=&merchants=&minutes=Any&modelInternalStorage=Any&monthlyCost=Any&networks=&phoneCost=Any&productType=handset&simType=Any&sortBy=Total%20cost&texts=Any

Cheers for any advice.

I've just been on a sim only deal for several years, I'm currently with BT and only pay £13 a month with unlimited text/calls and 6gb data, which is more than enough for me.

I switched to Three a few weeks ago Unlimited Data, Texts and Calls for £20pm not sure it's still on offer. Their coverage isn't as good as EE but good enough for most places I visit.

The only reason I can see not to get a P20 Pro is that the Mate 20 Pro (which is slightly higher spec) is set to drop in price as the P30 is announced. TBH though you'll probably still get a better deal on the P20, and it's a beast of a phone.

I have a Mate 10 Pro and it's a cracking phone. Some folk have had Strava issues but I think those are all solvable (I don't tend to use Strava for rides so it's never bothered me).

Can I just hijack this thread a bit please?

I have a Motorola Moto X which has beenfaultless for over 3 years but poor storage means I fancy an upgrade

As a result I'm now a Motorola fan boi with unshakeable brand loyalty

I've looked on Amazon reviews for the new generation and there's some iffy reviews. Is this just a case where there are always the odd bad review for the best products (the trip advisor curse) or has quality control slipped?

I got junior an Honor 10 at the weekend. Really impressive phone for the price. 24mp camera front and rear, great screen 128GB storage. Hard to justify a £1000 Samsung or Apple when you see these.

Finger bang, I have run a g5 for the past couple of years and have been very pleased with it, but the pretty mediocre spec, price, and the glass back on the g7 have all put me off. Typing this on a pocophone F1, which has a massive spec for under 300 quid, bought from ebuyer, so has 2 year UK warranty too. Pleased with it.

So no takers for the 2 outfits I mentioned abovementioned then?

It will work out cheaper to get a phone on contract rather than buy one for £500 and £10-15 per month for the sim.

Have used mobile phones direct. They're ok. Won't deliver anywhere other than the registered address of your card if that matters. The voucher refund thing? Pita and if you're anything like me you'll forget or submit too late at least a couple, but maybe you're organised.

Just got a Pixel XL. It is seriously good. Guaranteed 3 years of update support from Google and always first with the updates too.

On Giffgaff coincidentally but got it second hand with 2 year warranty from cex.

When China invades it also won't work as a homing beacon for cruise missiles after by stash of baked beans. Bonus.

Have you seen the new Nokia 9 Pureview? That's going to be my android phone when they hit the market - looks a nice bit of kit and very well priced.

Del, yeah that's what I was thinking it would be a pain to remember and guess that they rely on people forgetting but if I can be organised.. 🙂

Pretty certain every time I have looked buying the phone outright and doing a sim only deal has been cheaper.

Wife has a Huawei phone. Seems okay. Lots of preinstalled apps which duplicate preinstalled google ones. Launcher is a bit naff but replaceable. Main downside is that software updates seem sporadic, but that is an issue with most non google / Samsung phones.

My wife recently bought a Xiaomi A2 Lite with Android One.

For £200 it's a great phone. It's updated itself several times since she got it so Google really do roll out the updates quickly

I got my Xiaomi lite for £164 on eBay . 4 GB ram and 64 storage with 128 chip. I shouldn't run out of space.

Taken a while to get used to it. I wish the notification dots were a different colour to the icon and it had a voice activated camera.

It's so much better than my S5 and I'm loving the fingerprint recognition. Just a shame I can't put Google pay on it.

Google Pixel here, got it last week.
I had an HTC M10 on contract and then just stayed with that phone on a SIM-only deal for ages but it was getting knackered, the charge would barely last half a day (although the camera was still excellent).

Went for the normal Pixel rather than the XL, got it from EE as that's who I've always been with. They had to order it in but no issues transferring everything over, getting it set up. Seems great so far and it'll go nearly 2 days on a single charge.

I need to be with either o2/the piggy backers or EE for networks.

Fonehouse is another outfit that's popped up anyone used them.

I'm pleased with my note 9, great phone generally but the pen integration works really well. Being able to handwrite notes directly onto the lock screen as easily as pen and paper is great and being able to write on pdfs saved me from having to print a doc out, fill it in by hand, scan it in and email it back earlier today.

Waterproof etc etc and supported accessories wise by quadlock and other aftermarket manufacturers unlike some other makes.

Used Fonehouse last week. No problems and they were very helpful when I rang them.

Piggybacks on EE. Quite often has 100gb for £20.

Good to know timid ta.
Tbh I don't need loads of data 4gb is normally enough it's just there are some phone contract deals that offer more for nigh on same price.
